    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

With all this freshly painted stuff dry this morning, the only logical thing to do was to bolt it all on!! First up was the gas locker and panel work. These panels are all held on by M8 bolts. To allow the panels to move under chassis twist, I am adding some thick rubber washers to each bolt...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

So, with all this time off and the weather on my side, I've managed to finish, sand, prime and paint half of the side skirt panels. Hot tip for anyone building their own truck like I am... Finish and prime each job! It's a pain in the ******** having to clean up and finish stuff that should have...

    Importing to the USA

And if you are looking in the UK, make sure you have someone physically look over it before parting with your hard earned cash... They salt the roads in winter and it doesn't do vehicle chassis and bodies any good! Cars with minimal or no rust here in Australia has taken some getting used to! :)...

LET ME SEE YOUR IMPORTED DOUBLE CAB MB OR IVECO VEHICLE CONVERSION

A 4x4 bus would have to be one of the few ways forward... Tho expensive this one would be pretty good... It's going places where we would go in our truck, and to be honest we wouldn't plan to do much more than that... An option worth considering.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

So, onwards! A little more progress this weekend, and I think I have turned the corner with the build, as I am finally bolting clean or freshly painted stuff to a clean chassis. First up today was to fit the freshly cleaned and painted wheels back on the truck! Next up was to start cleaning...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Any pics of the 1124 with the knackered gearbox?? I paid 30k (AUD) for ours and thought it was more than enough at the time... but it was fit enough to fill with fuel and then drive from Tamworth NSW to the Barossa SA which is approx. 1500km, and it came with a crane and a full tank of fuel... I...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Mine is in build at the moment, so no... Before I started the build, I used the truck to collect large moss rocks for our house build. I was off road quite a bit, and never needed 4WD, let alone diff locks. That would change on sand, but I've not been game enough to try it on a beach without...

    Drop in replacement alternator 150A

My overactive mind kicked into gear with this one... You could have a spinning shaft running the length of the Hab Box and run all manner of things off it... washing machine, coffee grinder, cooling fan, food processor etc etc!! ;)

LET ME SEE YOUR IMPORTED DOUBLE CAB MB OR IVECO VEHICLE CONVERSION

I saw one of these Rotel Tours coaches up in the Northern Territory last year. I wanted a look inside but it was all locked up and it's PAX were off bush walking somewhere.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi Palebluewanders. The truck came with the front diff lock. The whole setup was a lucky find. High range, low range, front and rear diff locks, and a decent wheelbase. Not common here in Oz! The only thing I'd have wanted to add was a V8 and more gears, but it would have been a lot more thirsty...

LET ME SEE YOUR IMPORTED DOUBLE CAB MB OR IVECO VEHICLE CONVERSION

Hello! 9 in a cab is a big ask! Anyway, maybe have a chat with this fella. He bought 2 crewcab Mercedes trucks in and was planning to sell one... https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/portland-1222af-adventures.214134/

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Sunday and last night was spent doing some final masking (masking the axle swivel balls was fun!), and then painting. It's not a job I want to do again, but I'm happy with the results. Once the wheels are painted, I can then focus on finishing, priming and painting all the side skirts and...

    Recirculating Showers?

Fair call. I guess when lying in a bath for a few hours you are in a lot more water, and even though you wash your hair, you don't put your face and eyes under. I hadn't really thought too deep into it, but yes, very valid points. Cheers.

    Recirculating Showers?

Hi all. I've had this thread pointed out to me as I asked about recirculating showers elsewhere. Looking at the system in the Sprinter, it sounds good but also sounds busy and expensive, which kinda defeats the purpose. The primary filtration is a good idea and I think this is key, but is the UV...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Another vote here for Marine Hatches here. Though not fitted yet, we purchased two Vetus Maxwell Boat deck hatches. We looked at the motorhome and RV hatches, and nothing seemed that well made. We then briefly looked at the European stuff, and though the quality is great, the price is very...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi fella. So, I'm using Solver Ag Enamel. which mix to the colour you want. It coats very well, sticks to anything, and dries within half an hour. I'm going with one coat as it's gone on well, and realistically, very little of the chassis will be seen when the job is finished. :)
