Following Drew in his FJ Cruiser home from Moab, I kept his pace of around 95-100 km/h. I got around 28 mpg Imperial in my BJ74. I thought that was pretty awesome, better than I'd ever done in it or my BJ70. At my usual speeds I get about 22.
If I ever got 37.7 I think I'd have a heart attack.
We got them in 87 as well, though not many of them.
The numbers I recall are:
388 in 1985 12v
137 in 1986 24v
139 in 1987 24v
130,000 km on a 3B is VERY low miles - even if it's an Oz cruiser. If it isn't a rust bucket it could be a great project. RHD is a non issue IMHO.
Got any pics?
If you have a brick and mortar store nearby, it'd be good to see one side by side with an 857D and play with them both.
The 857 is essentially the same radio in a smaller package, without the ability to add the (expensive) batteries. You might find the 857 a better fit for your needs - or not...
I'm sure impressed with the Puma. I had a C)2 bottle for my rig but decided to go the Puma route after seeing it in action in the Copper State Land Cruisers' rigs.
I solid mounted mine to my drawer rig, but keeping it portable is nice too if you have the space. 100% duty cycle, btw. I upgraded...
Can't have = want... :sombrero:
Seeing one in the flesh makes a huge difference in perspective, at least in my case. I went from thinking "wow those things are expensive" to "wow, those things are totally worth it"
I was wondering that too. Could be easier to find a spot for a removable faceplate model than a 1 piece. Means you need a more expensive dual band model though.
I bolted one to the front of the center console in my BJ70, worked ok.
They are excellent. You can bend them almost back on themselves.
Mine has been on the front bumper of my BJ70 for a dozen years at least. Survived BC brush and low parking garages too.
I put another on my BJ74 when I got it. Haven't been able to break one yet.
