    why skottle?

    Lets See Your Solar Setups

You got it all wrong.. Not enough solar=no electricity for the fridge to cool the beer=hot beer and spoiled meat for food=you need to put down the current beer you hold , take **************** of the chair and start the engine to idle for hours to charge the battery to get the next cold beer.. And then...

    Lets See Your Solar Setups

That’s not the issue.. If you install the panel in a fixed flat position, you lose significant amount of the panel performance. I don’t understand why people install it in a fixed flat position rather then in a movable option. Say, when you camp, you adjust the angle. Sent from my iPhone...

    Lets See Your Solar Setups

Question to all those who install a solar panel horizontal on the truck/trailer roof: Usually, during the day, when the sun is directly above you, in a good angle for horizontal panels, you (at least I do..) are on the move, Hanse, you charge with your alternator., and the panel’s charge in...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Friend upgraded from a 1997 hilux to a 2018 diesel Hilux. He think it’s better in every aspect in overall performance. Yes, The front independent suspension travel is inferior to the live axle, but that’s about it.

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Never said that.. The Prado is what you have as Lexus GX450, not the 4Runner. The point is, If you drive a Tacoma/equivalently sized pickup, when it’s you, your girlfriend and maybe a dog (reminder.. this was the starting point for this treed..), , and you’re short in cargo space, the problem...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Appeals to apples you said.. The LC79 load capacity and size are more comparable to ford 350 shortbed, it carries more then metric ton, and much bigger then medium sized ranger. The rest of the world outside North America refer to what you guys call “small trucks” as the main work horses, and...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Is it the weight limit or the space in the bed? We (2+2) manage to get everything we need for a 4-day off road trip before we need refueling/re-supply. Fridge, second 50L cooler, fire wood, tent, tools, kitchen, big first-aid kit, spare parts, shade, small compressor, 50Lwater tank, 4...

mods you wouldnt do again ...

I’ve spread an open element filter, it had about half the filtering area of a OEM Toyota air filter. The shape of the filter does not effect but the filtering area and the tubing to and from the filtering element.

mods you wouldnt do again ...

High flow air filtering element.. That’s something I used for short time, took out of the truck, and would not do again. There is no more air without less filtering, and less filtering don’t do good to engines off-road. Short web research shows the numbers very good. You’ll be surprised to see...

Hodakaguy's Overland Tacoma Builds - On to new adventures!

I like to keep the color coding of the positive=red, negative=black. Mixing colors on the same cable increase exponentially the risk of electrical accidents.

    Solar Controller Placement

SC on the back of the solar panel, with a connector for a wire. I have Anderson connectors behind the bumper for each battery, and a 10f wire(truck in the shade and panel in the sun). this way I can shift the wire to the different batteries, and also to other trucks if needed.

    Skool me on Skottles

It’s a different name for a monster wok. We attached a long handle to a big wok and use it over open fire or powerful stove.

Anybody still carrying a Hi Lift Jack?

Yes, still carrying it. It’s bolted to the truck’s bed for about 20years. It gets out to work about once a year, but when it does, it has exactly the advantage over other recovery gear.

Considering a swap from LR4 to HiLux / Tacoma

The trucks from 3 decades ago are not relevant for comparison, not with the current hilux, and definitely not to late LR models. Did you own/used/paid for maintenance of one of the candidates? I own a 1997 hilux, for the past 16years, it's robust, reliable and cheap in overall cost during...
