    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Finally the water tanks have arrived. 2 x 220lt poly tanks. The first is going under the body on the LH side as pictured. This leaves me 350mm spare between the tank and wheel arch for either the rear lift pump and tank or the Honda genset.

    Towing a LN2

My take on it... The axles are live axles, so if the wheels turn when towing, the diffs turn, thus turning the props, transfer case and internals of the gearbox... If your transfer case has a neutral switch and you are aired up enough to turn it to neutral and hear it actually disengage, then...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Here it all is with the steps down and the door closed. It all seems to work quite well. I have 'Traveling Babo' and 'Pepita' visiting in March for a few days of 'truck talk', so it'll be interesting to see what two well traveled truck families think of my antics so far. I'm now waiting on the...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi all. Small amount of progress here. I now have an aluminium drop door hung off the new battery box. I had to go back and re align the skirt under the door, as somehow I'd started to creep upwards by 5 mm... The skirts should have 100mm clearance from the body. I made the battery tray to suit...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Hmmm.... Again you have me thinking! My spare truck/prime mover came with Parabolic Springs under the cab.... I wasn't going to bother fitting them, but now I'm wondering if it would be worth it. I however think that there'd be less weight on a prime mover front axle than a rigid 4x4 truck...

IWe already have a truck for our project

Hi Toni. Good to see progress. You have a good chassis choice to start. Are you going to lengthen the wheelbase/chassis?

Unimog U1300L 435 1986 - Restore to former glory & add custom camper

I'm leaving our roof rack until I have the cab setup against the body and know it's not changing in any way, as I want it to tie in with the body lines somehow.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Great thanks. Think that was the answer I was after. I'd be going with lead acid for ease, cost and availability. You have covered big distance in your truck and in many temps, so proven that outside is fine long term. I have a nice large empty 1m x 1m x 0.5m deep space under the floor ********** in...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Next was the new double decker battery tray as there's now an air tank in where the batteries were, along with the PAX door footwell. I've made it so the batteries are staggered. All terminals are reachable, and I plan to put the battery isolator with the key side in the body foot well.... Two...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Another weekend in the workshop (no surprises there!). I managed to fold the gas locker door, weld the corners and get it hung this morning. I've also made and mounted the shallower skirt section that goes under the steps and hides the original battery/air tank tray.

Merkabah: MB 2626 AK 6x6 tipper to expedition truck conversion

So.... I was looking through a Russian overland group on Faceplant this morning, and I saw a picture that reminded me instantly of a sketch I'd seen about a year ago.... This was the sketch I saw... And this was the pic I found this morning!!! Seems you are not alone in your original thoughts! :)

We'll keep looking.... Just need a bigger magnet! So, when do you start the body build? Have you a layout yet? :)

Looking good! Re your springs, look up 'Traveling Babo' (Simon and Joan) on Faceplant. They have a platform similar to you and have just changed their rear springs too here in Oz. Not sure if they have any info or recommendations, but always worth the ask! :)

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

The cylinders are a snug fit but at least we have plenty of storage for gas on board. I figure that a larger locker with removable cylinders allows plenty of room for smaller cylinders if we do manage to get to foreign shores! :) As I left it this eve!

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Once I had a door frame in place, I could start to tack the skirt parts together. This has to be reasonably accurate as the next part ties in with the fold out steps.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Man hours!! Yup, far too many of them. As I get older I feel it more too!! Well, the weekend came... and went!! I do at least have the cylinder rack mounted in place... With the rack in, I could work out thee door frame and get my head around how tight it all is!

Hello From NZ and help with a Big decision to make

Oh, I've learned something! Didn't know there was a bigger V6. Wonder what the dimensions are in relation to the smaller V6!? :) So, is that larger V6 an electronic engine then?

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Small amount of progress over the last few evenings. I have the gas cylinder rack tacked up. The days are heating up again so progress will slow until the weekend!

Hello From NZ and help with a Big decision to make

Cool. In theory it should be an 1834 truck then, as the OM441LA V6 was only available from 220 to 340hp. 18(tonnes)34(hp). Cheers.
