You could put some more insulation underneath the vinyl mat. I think the same amount of heat will come thru it is just vinyl may conduct more heat to the touch? You could also put in some carpeted floor mats on top of the vinyl.

If you get a Jeep go for the Rubicon for sure! I have never met anyone wishing they didn't have a front locker or lower gears etc.

It is a good idea to have it easily removable. Between trips I use my rig for hauling all kinds of stuff. I think the main probelm is when you need to haul a large bulky item like a pice of furniture, TV etc. If you have another vehicle or pick-up no worries.

I'd keep your 4 Runner. It is a known quantity and gets almost 2x the MPG and therfore you could go on 2x a many trips??
