You could put some more insulation underneath the vinyl mat.
I think the same amount of heat will come thru it is just vinyl may conduct more heat to the touch?
You could also put in some carpeted floor mats on top of the vinyl.
Your 285 x 75x 16 KM2's were probably Load Range E which is a pretty stiff tire.
I have had that size on a truck and now have 33 x 10.50x 15" Load Range C on my Jeep which feels totally different.

It is a good idea to have it easily removable.
Between trips I use my rig for hauling all kinds of stuff. I think the main probelm is when you need to haul a large bulky item like a pice of furniture, TV etc.
If you have another vehicle or pick-up no worries.
