Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Maybe a tribal sticker! ... maybe not... Here are the fenders that I have pretty much done. I am still going to bed liner them so I am not concerned with some of the slight dimples from the welding. For my first attempt at making a fender, I am pretty happy although I would definitely do...

Ha! Me too! Probably mix up some Aluminum filler-- I have some aluminum specific stuff from working on my Land Rover panels. I'll share the name when I dig it out. I believe it is Evercoat. I also have some Devcon Aluminum putty left over that I paid a pretty penny for-- I'll probably start...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Started building the fenders and finishing the outside. Winter I will start the redesign of the inside. The trailer is working fantastic and I am very pleased with the suspension and axle. I was worried as I have never made an axle before, but it seems to pull perfectly.

I really like the Trail Gear springs-- I did the front, but the rear have a lighter spring rate that may be better for you, depending on weight.

2006 Fleetwood Neon - Family Adventure Basecamp

They are the perfect length for me for sure. Just tall enough that I don't need to use blocks under them if the ground is somewhat level (have several inches to spare--about 5 or so) which is super sweet. Then I have some tire stackable platforms that can go under them if need be or super soft...

Thats good advice, Bayou---some serious food for thought. If I could do it without introducing slop, which I could do with just a little extra effort, I could probably do that for maybe 20 extra pounds for a stout set up. I'll consider it.

Awesome! Check out the BAL C-Jacks for stabilizers. They work great and super easy to deploy/retract.

Why land rover is so popular

They are steeped in history. Similarly the Toyota FJ series. Iconic...

Davey--although you will find most of his stuff double posted in this thread, BadAndy was working on his version keeping the stock frame here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/143249-Andy-s-Fleetwood-Neon-project Just for more brain food :-)

Thanks for the nice comments! Went out again this weekend for two nights. I just love this camp spot--there isn't anyone with a camping rig that gets up there (at least not yet) and all the campers/vans/Subarus/Westies can't get up that high so it is only some very mild "jeep" traffic and...

    Gidget Trailer from OZ

I like it and really dig the features Pilat called out. I think there is just a bit of slow traffic on this site right now due to camping/vacation season :-)

Everything went great--it pulled way better than expected, slow or fast, it did great. Tracked perfect and we went up some incredibly rocky jeep trails and across a rushing stream. I watched the suspension do it's thing and the D90 pulled it really well. There were a few steep areas that I...

I'll cover the winch, mainly for protection. Undecided about the brake lever/actuator. I live in a pretty safe neighborhood and I can't imagine someone ****$&ing with my trailer on a trail... but I might. Not for a while for sure, just cause there are so many other things left to do that take...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Had to fix one leak from the actuator, but the brakes are working! Emergency brake as well. I cut off and re welded the rear fender support outriggers as they were too close to the tires under load, so now everything is golden. I still need to make the fenders, but that can wait as tomorrow I...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

All the brakes are plumbed in and I installed the emergency brake. I am still going to make a bracket that hold the brake lever in the off position so that it can't accidentally be applied during travel. I activated it last night and left it over night to check for leaks and it was still fully...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Worked on the trailer on Sunday and took it for a brief test drive but haven't had it on the freeway yet. Got the replacement 2.5" rise Lock-n-Roll hitch and the stance is quite nice. I got the trailer harness wired in, the bed supports welded on and the support posts made as well as the...

Pretty cool idea-- make a deck, perhaps, but alas, no I didn't consider it. Just never thought about it. I don't mind the back entrance though although I don't think I really have a preference. Tons more work/weight doing a swing away tongue box when not super necessary....

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

After work I welded in the mounts for the electric over hydraulic brake actuator (running land rover disc brakes) and made the hydraulic line from it to the handbrake input. Tomorrow I will probably start the rest of the brake tubing (if it doesn't rain) and then start the electrical wiring...
