Is there any expedition willys out there?

My first vehicle was a MB The engine had been rebuilt twice before we got it and we rebuilt it again. With all of the machine work being done on it over the years it ended up with a bit higher compression ratio so it actually had decent power, but we couldn't fix the rear main seal to hold in...

Spending time with your father on a trip like this is always good. It was a fathers/sons trip to Buena Vista CO. The "Boys" set up camp, did the cooking, clean up and hauled beers to the fathers.

Are roof racks really worth it?

I come from the other end of this, I have gone out for well over a week with what I could carry on my back. 2 of us have gone to Moab and camped out of my CJ3B for a week during Thanksgiving. Having children would certainly throw another wrench in the works. I don't remember the 4 of us in the...

The Land of Aus - Australia E7 Trip Report

About 30 years ago a friend went to Perth as an engineer. He thought about retireing there. 4 more trips over the years, the last about 1year ago. It was less expensive to buy a house on the coast of OR. and pay for the Country Club membership.

what size sockets to cary JKU

Other people use my tools more than I do on a trail so I carry a fairly complete tool kit and all of the fluids. Recovery gear as will. The 3B doesn't mind the extra weight.

    5 Days in Moab Utah

That brought back a lot of memories, we've been doing that trail for over 20 years. The last trip we took the cremains of two of our friends out to the Confluence Overlook to let them go where they wanted to be. We did do a mouth to mouth on a bottle of Tequilla too while we were there. As the...

    My Journey

The owners manual for my G20 says that if you are in the hills or towing, leave it in D. When I drive passes like Wolf Creek or Trail Ridge, when the transmisson decides it's time to shift to 2nd, I just put it into 2nd and stay there until I'm mostly down the other side. None of the shifting...

2015 Jeep JKUR - Daily Driver / Family Camp-mobile BUILD

Winches are usually rated at the first wrap on the drum, at least the electric ones are. The PTO doesn't seem to care how many wraps are on the drum. I've had all of the cable out and pulled until it was all wound in. It didn't care. The only issue was getting the cable to lay in an orderly...

2015 Jeep JKUR - Daily Driver / Family Camp-mobile BUILD

You can never have too much line on the winch. I've been dragging people out for years. I'm up to 180' on my Konig pto mounted on my CJ3B. It's rated at 8,000 lbs. Thats about when you are pulling the back of the Jeep off. Snatch blocks, Tree straps, tow straps, chains, cables. We have needed...

Looking for ideas on a good Fuso jack?

I have straped the HiLift to the rear bumper of my MF. It was of more use to help level the vehicle. The 8 ton bottle jack is still my preferred tool for tire changes. I have never oiled my HiLift. In my opinion all that does is attract dirt. Mine works fine. Several freinds have HiLifts, they...

    ARB 50 QT -- Buyer's Remorse?

I have a motor home now but I have dealt with ice chests for years. I all depends on the length of the trip. If you are out for a few days ice chests work fine. If you are out for months to years you need something else. Ice chests, use block ice, it lasts longer. Or freeze 1 gallon milk...

What Do You Dislike About Your JK

Both of my Jeeps will go over 80 MPH and I can squeak the tires in either going into 2nd. Why do I need to do so? I've had Jeeps that would go well over 100 MPH. Well, I was young and stupid, but they were fun, but I had to figure the top speed out. No they wern't stock. Anymore I just putt...

[YEAR 7!] Quit our jobs, sold our home, gone riding...

As usual, Gene, a nice post. Bikes in a cross wind, always fun. A steady wind is OK. A gusting wind, I've needed the entire lane sometimes.
