Which repair manual for 2014 JKU?

I only know about old Jeeps, an origional FSM is the only way to go. Haynes or Chiltons are best used as door stops.

    Roam About with "Big Hank"

Petey looks like he has a bit of Basset Hound in him.

Clone of ARB Intensity LED Driving Light/Light Force 250!

That would have been interesting to see. I have a 400,000 CP hand held light. I think I have used it once on the trails. You can light things up 1/4 mile away. It is a handy thing to have on a boat if you are running at night. It's also a good way to cook some wires if the boat system is...

    Central Asia tour Finland-Russia-Kazakstan-Uzbekistan-Taijikistan-Kirgistan

Nice report, I've owned a few Volvos. Other than the color it looks like my '86.

Texas to California and back in a formerly derelict 1966 VW Beetle

I spent a few years with a 1964 VW. Motor is easy to rebuild and go to a big bore kit. Fortunatly they are also easy to push start.

Micro adventures of the NW rockies

Keeping wood straight when you clamp it can be a problem. Very good picture of the dog, don't loose it.

Clone of ARB Intensity LED Driving Light/Light Force 250!

In the late '60s a friend had an Alfa Romeo Giula with 2 aircraft landing lights mounted behind the grille. A friend said that it would light up the hill a few miles away. I'm sure they were a good strain on the battery and generator.

    CJ5 For Sale

Nice Jeep, I have 2 running and the parts for another 3B in the yard. I don't need another project. Yours has been patched a bit but the tool box is in great shape, sort of rare. I think your motor is possibly a 231 vs a 225 from some of the emission stuff mounted, distributor and the...

Expedition overland article on not getting "Jeeping"

The thing is that we all need to do our part to keep our public lands clean. When our family was out camping we always cleaned up our stuff, we also cleaned up the whole camp site. We started doing the "Jeeping" thing in 1968. We always came back with more stuff in the Jeep than we started with...

Is 4WD necessary in a Light Truck? Diff Locks Sufficient?

One of the things I was told years ago is that 4X4 will just get you in twice as far before you get stuck. I can do many Jeep trails in my CJ3B in 2X4 because of the Powerlock rear axle. My father got the old '62 Suburban into many places because of the Powerlock it had. I have pulled a few 4"...

[YEAR 7!] Quit our jobs, sold our home, gone riding...

A friend of mine is 6'3". when he was in the Middle East, Hawaii and South America, he was a giant. One plane flight he was on with a NBA team, he became a dwarf. On the other hand, a friends mother is 5'2". If she is in a downtown area she seems to have the ability to slither through the crowd...

A Maze, Poisoned Spring, and a Black Dragon

Good write up, I've been going out to that area for years. I've learned of a few more areas to explore. U joints are handy things to have in a tool box. On one of the last trips I had 2 new ones with me, A friend ended up needing both of them before we got to the end of the road.

Oregon: Ochoco Challenge, June 6-8, 2014

Yep, bikes can cover the terrain 3 to 4 times faster than a stockish 4X4. On my XT 550's, only had about a 150 mile range. The hail and snow made things a bit more intersting too when we were in the La Garita area here in CO. The last time I drove to Holy Cross City there was one guy on a dirt...

Willys Wagon. Where can I find a roof rack?

Sorry. I can't help you with the roof rack, I haven't seen a roof rack like that for years. You have a nice Jeep.

    Long Ride on a 1982 Honda XL500R

I hope you made it, or will finish the ride. I rode a Yamaha XT 550 for years. It wouldn't have been my choice for a trip across the country. Come to think of it. I had a friend that rode to SF on a 185 Suzuiki from here, then from Daves Creek OR to Tok AK.

    Canyonlands 50th Anniversary

Thanks for the link. I think I will have something to read for a while. Have you ever read One Mans West by David Lavender? He tells about growing up in the Paradox Valley in the '30's. John

    Canyonlands 50th Anniversary

Tomas, we have been going out to the Needles district since the mid '70's. We have been to many of the same places. Enjoy your time out there. Did you ever read Edward Abbeys The Monkey Wrench Gang? One of the rangers way back then said that it was required reading for them.
