Amongst the great flatbed ideas I'm sure Jason Bahr (design lead at FWC) has banging around his head and hard drive, here's mine I submitted for FWC to work up a quote. The first sketch is based on a Grandby platform and the second one is for a Keystone.
Putting the dinette in the back keeps...
If anybody has refined research requirements, I can pay a visit and do some local research since I live on the west side of Tampa Bay.
The 'research assistant' offer is open until the first week of April when I move from Florida.
I'll be shipping out of Miami myself in a few years but...
I only quibble about 50 lbs if I have to carry it on my back, a bicycle or a motorcycle :bike_rider: .
It's a truck....you'll be OK.
Now post some photos, fer cryin' out loud :D !
Hey, thanks for the great photos. Waldo Canyon's a great trail to run. My staff absolutely LOVED me for taking them up there. Of course, after all of them got used to doing the Incline every week, they didn't mind the longer trails runs :victory: .
The smaller the FOB, the bigger the tears. All losses are tough but some simply dry you out.
If the biggest adventure you take for the rest of your life is to make the trek out to visit the Corzine family around Christmas, you'll surely give them a Christmas they'll cherish forever.
If I were to make any more modifications to my Tacoma and Fleet it would be:
1) Install flatbed
2) Install some 4 or 6ft Pro-Tech toolboxes under the Fleet's 'wings'
3) Upgrade front brakes with OEM-spec aftermarket rotors and pads (no change to calipers) and improved OEM-spec drums and shoes...
I replaced my leaf pack (Alcan), added air bags and re-geared (4.88) my 2002 Toyota Tacoma.
No regrets. Great driving manners in ALL conditions. Might not easily fly down the highway at 80mph anymore but it'll handle tough trails and mountain passes without breaking a sweat.
Best of luck!
I have 3 kids and I've carried them in both Kelty and Deuter while snowshoeing and hiking.
Between those two brands, Deuter is what you want if you're going to get out a lot and want to carry more than just your child.
Osprey makes good stuff and they do their homework. I have several of...
Man, listen to Hadley's driver and pods8....they're some regular diplomats. I'm gettin' all mushy and fuzzy warm.
Ok, hugger bears and smoochy face for Fairfax.
I went with the re-gear for a few reasons:
1) In my research for the Toyota SC I saw a ton of tweaking notes in the TTORA forum which led me to believe that if I didn't add $1,500 more in aftermarket components (7th injector / URD) that I would be one of the lucky few if my SC worked properly...

Dude, get real.....this is a dinky little camper with a ton of capability crammed into it and built to handle the worst roads possible....you think you can do all that AND make it, what, feel like a Class A motorhome?
I think you missed your exit on the Internet Highway.

Yes, it would be best / optimal / ideal to have that weight over or forward of the axle but I think for many the advantages of the design (inside toilet for the Mrs and a much more comfortable dinette) would outweigh the decrease in handling performance.
The water tank is under the settee which...
I think it would be an injustice to lead a noob to believe that a KLR or a DR 650 is going to have him on singletrack anytime soon. This is like telling a novice carpenter he can drive a finishing nail with a sledgehammer. I recognize you included somewhat of a caveat in the next sentence but...
Totally agree.
BIIIIIG advantage. That's our biggest grumble with our 2009 Fleet....not sure of the reasoning why the sink was placed aft and the stove fore but we have to slide the bed out of the way to get to the stove to make that ever-important morning cup of coffee. Definite bummer...
