Came across this "no maintenance road" between a few farmers fields yesterday. It has rained a lot here in Ontario over the last week or so. There was a lot of standing water on it. I wasnt sure how muddy the base of the road was. I made it over this section fairly easily, and the next...
I brought my camera away with me to work this week, took a couple nice pictures of a road a tried out as well as the skids, I forgot the SD card though so the pictures are on the camera, and I dont have the cable.
Here is a quick pic of the skids after I picked them up. They are dirty, but...
Wow you look a lot taller than the other two, and the tires are definitely noticeably skinnier, good looking group!
I had this reality check yesterday....2500 Dodge on 35s and 2500 Chevy on 33s...ouch.
I don't fish as much as I like, and have never fly fished. I could still tell as we were exploring around that these were world class fly fishing locations. They were right out of the textbook. Mostly I saw Penn's Creek from on high but the Penn's Creek Pilsner at the Elk Creek Cafe and Aleworks...
Hercules is a pretty popular tire in Canada and the Northern US. its an Ohio based company I believe, they have a pretty large selection. All of their tires are made by Cooper.
215 85R16 is almost the exact same height as 245 75, however, just over an inch less section width. Looks great on a boxy XJ which was designed in the 80s. Might be too skinny on the R50, not sure though
my brother just had the same debate on his XJ....245 75 or 215 85...he went with the 215 85. They do look good just skinny. Would you go to a larger tire? or just skinnier?
I had to look it up, but BFG AT is 16/32, so that is quite a bit more actually. They look like they have bigger voids than the BFG AT as well, which should help a bit in the mud, which is one of the few issues with the BFG AT
once you go skinny you don't go back...or something like that
I am very interested to hear your thoughts on the Terratrac DT, looks like a nice tread and could be in the running when I have to replace mine. I have about 30,000 miles on them so I hope I am only about half way done, they appear...
Yeah I would love to mount them higher, just seems way to convenient to put them into holes I already have.
In other news I just found out that Canadian Tire up here sells a rebranded version of the rigid duallys...they are on sale this week for $165...would be shocking if I didnt end up with...
It is definitely on our list of places to visit. We haven't really nailed down what area we will be exploring yet, but we hope to make it to the trains. We won't start any serious planning until the new year most likely.
Both very close guesses!
I came across a set of skid plates on kijiji saturday afternoon. They were custom made (and used) by the guy I bought them from on his 2000 Xterra. They are in two pieces, one to cover the engine and transmissions and the other covers the transfer case.
It will provide...
There are a few build threads of similar generation patrols, I would start there, hopefully some of their owners will chime in here as well.
Problem is that in the US they have to wait 25 years to import compared to our 15, so they do not have as much access to these. Hope your search goes well
Patrols are every bit as stout as Land Cruisers, some would say even more so. Definitely well put together. I like the high roof and aluminum front bumper is nice. So is the diesel.
No personal experience and cant comment on price.
170,000 certainly isn't bad at all, tires look like they...

thank you for the compliments, Eastern Ontario has some great areas to explore as well. Both my parents are originally from that way, and we still have a family cottage just West of Perth.
Nice and close to Vermont and Maine as well, hopefully headed to Maine next year to poke around a bit
