Not sure if running an inline propane filter at the tank is or isn't compatible with high pressure systems but that might be something to consider given they're less than $10. Mr. Buddy heaters require them...
Agreed! This is the best set-up if you need frequent, fast and voluminous amounts of compressed air. This is especially cost effective if you can fab the bracket yourself for either the York or a Sanden.
Believe me I loved the super fast tire fills of CO2 via my 10# PowerTank. But CO2...
I fabbed a bracket to hold my Worthington 6# aluminum propane tank from 1/4" plate that attaches to my spare tire carrier. I wanted the propane out of the interior and didn't want to attach it, horizontally, to the roof rack...works great. I'd think about attaching to your spare tire mount...

Reid Supply is another great customer focussed industrial supplier. I just went through this and wasn't quite sure what pressure I really wanted/needed so I lucked out and was able to source one from Reid that allows bleed down to the right psi (assuming its too high...)...
I've owned a couple different aluminum slat roll tops and they just didn't do it for me. Same problem as the OP complained about in addition to have had issues with the plastic connectors on the slat top and the frame not being flexible enough to easily snap together/come back apart in anything...
2nd course on my night to cook apart of our recent Death Valley cruise: French Lardon Salad with brined and fried belly, mustard vinaigrette topped with a poached egg :)
Another shameless plug for Partner Steel Co.: I bought my dual burner 22" with windscreen directly from PSC. Their stoves come with a 5' propane hose set-up. I have a propane tank mounted on my bumper and preferred a longer hose to the stove so most often I don't need to remove the tank...but...
Good suggestion ^^^. Also have you checked renting one? Probably not too big o deal cutting soft wood and/or ply but 1/2" shank is better. Bits will probably cost you more than the tool...
Just in case you haven't seen this thread over on MUD. Metal Tech, among others, are being set up as resellers. Pretty cool tool!

No connection other than its a much needed tool...
If they are meant to flow upright/vertically then that is how they should be stored/carried. If a canister vents you want the gas not the liquid propane venting. Keep in mind neither is ideal but gas is better relatively...
Personally I wouldn't put them in anything too rigid/too sealed...
