22K is nothing in the bigger picture. We've gone from $50K Defenders to $90K plus in 6 months. I'm guessing the first edition markups are partly the issue but I'm getting this uneasy feeling that the post-covid effects are now being seen. Been looking at travel trailers and the 2021 models are...

Agreed. Now all that is needed is a diesel engine and 18" wheels ............

Land Rover told you what their strategy was years ago. I'm not surprised that they executed that strategy. The problem for JLR is that it left a $8 billion dollar hole in the financials to get there.

Land Rover Defender + Honda Element Mashup Is So Wrong, It’s Right A perfect front end swap.... The team over at car front swaps has made their mark on the new Land Rover Defender grafting the front end of the Honda Element on to the front of the Defender. The results are surprisingly cohesive...

Ineos to use BMW B58 engine. BMW B58 Will Power Upstart Land Rover Defender-Competitor "BMW seems to be loaning out the B58 turbo-I6 to anyone that asks for it, these days. First it started out as a partnership with Toyota, for the new Supra, then BMW lent it to the folks at Morgan and now...

    New Defender News

Not at all. The new Defender is the replacement for the LR4, a virtual LR5, while the Discovery 5 moves to a new product segment that is more Subaruish. Land Rover stated that strategy many years ago with the 3 product line roadmap. No one should be surprised. Land Rover could have restyled the...

Llc8 - 18" wont fit even with heavy spacers. 19" selection sucks so you are forced to 20" which is low profile. Argh.

    New Defender News

I'm sure on paper a 4 cyl looks ok. Then tow even at 50% of rated load at altitude and it will be marginal/suck. It is what it is. A choice made for CAFE requirements. As for brakes my LR4 brakes are fine for a 6000 lb truck. The Defender is 1000# lighter and needs bigger rotors? I doubt it...

Then the requirement for 20" wheels with a reasonable sized engine should be in the other thread. Then again it is 'news'.

    New Defender News

4 cyl is to small. I shouldn't have to "swap brakes" for 18" wheels. Plain poor design choice by LR. Reeks of LR engineers being shocked at how bigger tires work well off road.

20's are not the new 18's. Another really poor decision by LR which highlights the priorities are misplaced.

LOL. Running Engineers Pass some lady in a 4 person atv yelled " I wouldn't bring my LR4 up here! ". The only vehicles we saw were Jeeps, Yotas and Scouts.

The Defender may be rated at 8K but its loss of weight is a negative relative to towing. I prefer my trailer to weigh less than the tow vehicle and in fact to be derated even further from that relationship. The terrain for me is mountain passes. So while the Defender is rated at 8Klbs, I would...

The entire LR product line has lost a 1000lb's over the years. The LR3/4 come in at ~5800lbs curb weight while even the RR is down to ~4800 lbs. Now depending on your use profile that may be a plus but for some the LR3/4 was basically a 3/4 ton truck for towing AND it was a great off-road...

18's on the P400 is likely the same as 18's on the LR4 - spacers.

I suspect the Ineos Grenadier will make the new Defender look and feel like the next gen LR4, the LR5. I could be wrong ..............

    New Defender News

I was referring to the interior materials that LR selected for the new defender. Those materials lean towards a rugged image vs luxury. That said, I fully expect the new Defender to offer the same level of appointments that the LR4 HSE did as the new Defender is the LR4 replacement.

    New Defender News

I'm sure just about every component on the new Defender is somewhat different than the LR4. Styling changes drive that outcome as do technology advances and cost reductions. My point was that the new Defender form wise is virtually a slightly smaller LR4, that it lost some LR attributes (stadium...

So the new Defender has less cargo capability, lost the stadium seating, is now unibody but has a better infotainment system and more usb ports ............. Other than that they are virtually the same.
