Agreed. The LR3/4 is a unibody on full frame. You can actually lift the body off the frame. I believe the new Defender is aluminum unibody to reduce weight. Body is not removable. Likely lots of adhesive and rivets/welds.

The discussion also noted lockers. Can you add front and rear lockers to the new Luxury Defender with a simple 3rd member change?

Except when the ground is like marbles under all 4 wheels. TC hunts and fails on hill climbs. TC's weak mode is depending on at least one or two wheels having a surface that it can grab onto to continue forward momentum. Defenders with lockers walk right up as all four wheels work. Note: The...

On broken down granite hill climbs LR's traction control is a mid level performer when compared to a 2016 and older Defender with lockers.

McGoverns 'design language' pretty much sacrificed LR IP. Disney has more Defender front end IP than LR.

The dead KSI would differ with you. Now about the front clip, can it be removed in one piece? Or maybe just a few pieces such that the cooling attributes are maintained while the Disney look is removed?

Not at all. There was another KSI last night, same area as the homeless frequent, hit by a SUV that features the design attributes intended to minimize pedestrian injury. Except that design spec is for low speed travel, much less than posted limits. The real issue? Mental health, drugs, alcohol...

My point was I don't like the front end of the Luxury Defender because 1) looks like Disney 2) curved due to regulation 3) Jeep "shadow" lights and that the brush bar will be standard factory stoutness (lacking). The rear is actually good as it is more square. As for pedestrians, let's just...

The pedestrian would fare the same when the homeless drugged/drunk/mentally ill step off a curb in the middle of the block where the speed limit is 45mph. The angled front end profile simply increases the launch angle to the ultimate outcome, the second impact that kills.

You may want to recheck your numbers. 50mm = ~2". Meaningless without wall thickness. My D1 factory brushbar was "50mm" and would bend/flex with little pressure. In a front end impact they would leave a nice impression of the bull bar in the front clip, to include hood.

Pedestrian regulation has been of limited success and may actually be contributing to deaths. The slope of the front ends simply launches the pedestrian higher in the air. The end result, the secondary impact of hitting the ground/tree/lampole is the 'killer'. Kind of like the latest craze in...

My experience with OEM bullbars is that they are cheap, fab'd from thin metal. That said, there is hope since the mount points are there. Actually a whole new front clip would be preferable as that would address the Disney look.

The more I look at the new Luxury Defender the more I see 2 opposing designs philosophies. The rear of the new Defender is squarish, functional, meant for utility. The front is the outcome of regulation, smooth and bland and looking more like Disney than Defender. It's as if two different...
