    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

You only have to lift some vehicles "to the sun" in order to get a modicum of clearance. A Jeep Wrangler will fit 35s from the factory and comes with 33s! Lifting creates extra ground clearance; you don't drag your bottom across obstacles lopping off rocks, tearing up the ground- Lifting a...

How many people plan to lift their Defender, either as a coil spring version or else with something like "Johnson Rods" if it has air bags?

I wonder why they are keeping the body cladding on it when the "Tusk" look has already been displayed? I would have thought that they all would reveal as much as the "Tusk" one now.

If 34s on 18s would fit even with air bags I could potentially get past having the bags but I still like the long-term reliability and simplicity of coils better. Height sensors go and air bags leak- perhaps the Defender's air system will be worlds better, but we won't know that until they've...

Happy the 32s work for you. What I see in this picture is a vehicle barely clearing a relatively minor rock outcropping on an otherwise pedestrian trail. A lift kit with 35s aired down would clear that without stuffing the back passenger due to the taller coils and would provide a much softer...

35s are more capable, they ride better to me when they are aired down and I think they look worlds better.

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Haha!, fair point!, perhaps some of my "need" for 35s has more to do with my love of a lifted vehicle rather than actual need. My build philosophy though is to have a vehicle that's over built for what you want to do- so while I could probably make 33s work- I don't like making things work- I'd...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

It'd be incredibly disappointing to not have the coil option here in the States. It's difficult for me to believe that given the success of the Jeep Wrangler sitting on coils- specifically the Sahara (luxury version) and the Rubicon (most expensive version) to believe that LR can't see the...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Admittedly, I've been skeptical, but the more it comes into view the more I like what it is. If there is a coil spring suspension version (for lifting- I really want 35's on anything I'm going to use off-road) with the diesel (which from what we know appears to have more Hp and Torque than the...

So, I'm really hoping that is not the new Defender in the paint shot picture. That would be incredibly disappointing. I thought they were going to move away from the DC100? Can we get the black/white camo version and the hope it represented back?

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

That would be incredible! Not even sure how that would work- I guess a rear locker would be constant and the front would be TC (brake-control driven) and this would be the default off-road posture, then if you want, you'd select a front locker turning off the TC; leaving on the rear locker-...

I don't disagree that the new Defender will have better command of the terrain than the old one-frankly, I think it'd be hard for it not to be better than the old one with open differentials and no articulation, my point is that no matter how great the traction control is in the new Defender...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Good article overall, certainly makes me see the new Defender in a different light. There's two aspects I disagree with regarding lockers vs traction control. 1st he notes that mechanical lockers are difficult to engage and compares this to the ease of turning a knob to engage traction...

I really like the idea so long as it's something I initiate and it's clear they are not tracking. I.E.- you get a message like you do now that says you are due for a software update, but you have to accept to connect with JLR's computers, then the download completes and it disconnects.

I think Chris is on to something in this article. The "redesigned" New Defender isn't all that different from the DC100 concept, but I do think it's better, just not as different as I would have thought.

I really couldn't care less about safety ratings. Cars today are so much safer than anything before. So much of the ratings depends on the tech, which the Rubicon models in the States does have anyway. Would I give up the ability to remove the doors and top and feel the wind or to have the joy...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

I'm weird, I really would love to see a luxury interior version, but without the air bags. I just like a lifted vehicle. I know is AU and in other places it's just not as big of a deal from the videos I've seen, but I've always loved the look and functionality of a 4x4 lifted. A Defender with...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

It's great to see him acknowledge the concerns about reliability head on and talk about what all they've done to address it. It's interesting that he says the Defender is actually coming out later than they wanted due to all of the testing. I'd love LR get this right- the off-road market could...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

The retractable canvas makes sense. Jeep has been noting that it's the only open top 4x4 available in the world. Although this isn't quite that, it's a step towards it. Not sure what I think of the dash shifter. I guess it would create more room in the footwell- make room for a middle seat on...
