What would you replace your LR3/4 with ?

Another LR4. For us the D5 fails on many levels and the Luxury Defender has no powertrain options that we would go with.

Who ordered a New Defender ?

I'm in the same camp as JackW, do not want the MHEV powertrain. (Too complex, too expensive, unproven, long term cost would be high) In addition the 2.0L is too small. In summary the Luxury Defender has no powertrain options that work for me. Was at the dealer yesterday discussing this issue and...

Actually $55K RRC's could be had for $1K several years ago. Now they are collectors items and back up to $5K to $50K. That could be said for many vehicles, to include Jeep.

Realize that LR is competing at a much lower price point than a Ferrari. Potential buyers are sub-$100K and in reality the volume is sub-$65K. As already highlighted in this thread the competition is Jeep and the upcoming Bronco. For the emerging D5 segment it is what was the VW Touareg and...

Ah, BMW powertrain in a Defender is the long term plan.

I fully realize that technology is more than CPU's. Also understand that manufacturers all use the common subset of suppliers to provide parts. While the design can be different I would think the underlying manufacturing technologies are very similar. My point was that technology is...

Well that is an easy one. The D5 failed to meet volume expectations. New to LR buyers think the D5 is great. Previous LR customers think the D5 is a larger Russian doll in a line of look-a-like design language, that LR lost the formula. There are high expectations for the Luxury Defender and...

I too would be in the market for a diesel. The D5 is more attractive now given the Luxury Defender powertrains but not attractive enough to move from a LR4. I'm on the sidelines for now, something JLR doesn't need as financial issues mount.

JLR marketing is blaming Brexit but the reality is JIT is a coordinated dance of many suppliers that needs to be tightly managed as sales increase or decrease. Sales are down as consumers take a wait-n-see approach and products are in flux. What was the stories lately that JLR was introducing 30...

As production volumes decline JLR will need to figure out partnerships for supplier scale at lower cost.

While everyone is blaming Brexit for a significant decline in demand, the reality is that the auto industry is in turmoil and consolidation is the broad based discussion. Global debt is at large levels and economies are entering recession. The EU is already there and attempting negative interest...

I did characterize it as a "Luxury Defender" for a reason. There is likely too much technology. One area that is of significant concern to me is the reliance on SOTA (Software Over The Air) updates. That is fine except for those areas that don't have cell coverage. For Colorado and the...

So I have too many vehicles. Rescued a 59 Austin Healey 3000 roadster and it is literally a beast. Fifties technology, tractor gear 1st, no engine rear main seal by design so it ALWAYS marks its spot and side-curtains. Top? Well that is stowed behind the seat as a after-thought. Fun? Hell ya...

Even with the intro of the luxury Defender the financial landscape remains questionable. S&P Says Global Auto Sales To Fall 2-3% This Year, there will be "no growth" throughout 2020 and 2021. The recent JLR/BMW partnership announcements might be growing even further. BMW should buy Jaguar...

It is a different 'crowd'. When we were climbing up Engineer's Pass several years ago some lady in a ATV (what a miserable ride) yelled out "I wouldn't bring my LR4 up here!". The trail bike guy further up said "Perfect vehicle for here". And yes, no other LR's all day long while an assortment...

Many of the tourist 'Jeeps' in Colorado make the trip on a trailer behind a motorhome. In fact I would say 90%+ of the motorhome towed vehicles are Jeeps. That thousand mile trip is done in the comfort of a class A.

The new Defender power train options (limited and expensive), imposition of Brussels mandates / consumer be damned, MHEV concerns and eventual transition to FCEV's makes the D5 more attractive. Now if the D6 could solve some of the issues LR lovers have with it vs transitioning to a different...

Where does the Defender need to go? Let's look at JLR partnerships. BEV's are not the powertrain of choice for Land Rovers outside urban areas. (limited range) FCEV's offer promise but not until the second half of the next decade. Today we get MHEV's as an interim choice? BMW Targeting 1...
