    Grenadier Pricing Announced

Amen! There is a great YT channel of a guy that restores old tractors - back when stuff was built to last and still works 80+ years later. The majority of his work is replacing gaskets, bearings, bushing, etc....all wear parts, the gears, superstructure and in a lot of cases the engines are...

    Grenadier Pricing Announced

I hate to say it - but this is pretty much in-line with what I've been saying for the last year +.....no way this was coming in any cheaper, it's pretty much right where I thought it would be.... Just wait till people start tacking on ADM, I bet you see these for $120k+ for the first year...

How many of you ACTUALLY overland with your 80s or 60s

Depends on your requirements of a replacement.....if you are ok transitioning to a pickup there are options that are arguably better in a number of ways that are not much more complicated. You have the more modern 100/200 platforms while more complicated have proven very reliable and again, are...

Why is Dodge more popular than Ford/GM? (Not a bash post)

Out of curiosity what didn't you like about AEV?

Why is Dodge more popular than Ford/GM? (Not a bash post)

Is anybody doing the types up upgrades on Fords like AEV does on Ram's? I can jump on the AEV site and but stuff that is engineered to an OEM standard with a click of a mouse, just like I did for the rims I bought that are sim offset to stock unlike most of the aftermarket stuff available for...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

The only drivetrain upgrade that is practical is the "1 Ton" axle (whatever that means) and maybe driveshafts, unless they dropped in an Atlas....but that is a slippery slope since you move failure points upstream to Tcase and / or Trans and mounts. To argue in favor of this is to argue Toyota...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

I'd say the limits are not only stretched but completely broken. I'd buy into it a bit if it was say, 500-1000 overweight, they've made some tasteful mods to improve load carrying. The guy in the video said it was a completely new "chassis" - which is total baloney, it's an Toyota engineered...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

I watched the video, he said truck was 8500....don't know if that's wet or dry. Take best case scenario, which is wet (doubtful) add in 2 people + 400, personal gear +150 you are at 9000 lbs minimum, I'd guess most would be well into the 9-9500 range. Tacoma's GVWR is 5600 with curb weight...

I just looked at Durrance Design - they do nice stuff....but they use F350 - F550's and Unimogs it looks like, if that tells you anything...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

That is absurd at 3k + GVWR. Go put a 4000+ lb trailer behind a Tacoma and report back on performance, even better if it doesn't have trailer brakes to replicate this. I had a 2019 Ranger with a 20' Airstream WITH trailer brakes, a more powerful engine than a Tacoma and it was workable...

It's not arm-chair quarterbacking as much as it's pointing out the obvious - real world data and quantitative metrics.

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

Those old 22RE rigs were a 1-T platform with FF HD rear axles designed to hold the weight, not to mention, in an era where going 25 mph up hill was 'accepted'. Never mind they were on 28" tires and designed for the road, not offroad. I bet those Sunraders are 5-6000 lbs.

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

You said on post #280 it was 8500 lbs which is damn near 3000 lbs over GVWR, if that number is right it's ludicrous. Just the other day I had a yard of rock in my truck which put me right at 9k lbs, the first time I tried to stop was surprising.....this is a truck with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs...

Why is Dodge more popular than Ford/GM? (Not a bash post)

I think this is primary reason - "factory" off road upgrades due to AEV really drive the market for RAM's IMO. The primary reason I bought one - dollars. Truck for truck I don't think RAM's are cheaper than a comparable Ford or Chevy, but the tend to have lots of Tradesman level Ram's on lots...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

Well some performance attributes can be verified without owning one...things like MPG, acceleration, braking, etc. are all less than the comparable full size truck. I think Toyota generally does things right and on rigs that are heavy like the overseas LC70's they have bigger rear diffs...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

So we've confirmed, Truckhouse #1 is likely the test mule / proof of concept, Truckhouse #2 is owned by anonymous people....good on them but still don't see it as viable until we see some on the road and we see the shortfalls of the platform after 30/50/100k miles. All std. reliability stuff...

Thread for those that have their money down.

2 door bronco is a modern day LC70 IMO, ticks off a lot of boxes including being able to 'upgrade' to D60 rear and a HD D44 IFS up front and having full parts support in your hometown.

    Dual sport suggestions

Best performing probably goes to Beta 500RR, it's not as detuned as the KTM is from the factory and make quite a bit more power without mods. Those KTM's (I've had several) are great bikes but need ~$800 worth of stuff to get them performing to their potential, ECU, Muffler/Insert, Smog delete....

    INEOS Grenadier

User name checks out :) We've been debating the HP51 vs HP76 over the last few pages. My guess / hunch is that ZF works with OEM's to develop things like shifters with them appropriate for the application....it's proprietary and Jeep likely owns that design as does BMW. You want a BMW...

    INEOS Grenadier

Re; trans, I think it's complicated, I'm sure they procure the engine / trans as an assembly. I'd also guess the ratios in the diesel are different than the gasser but who knows. My hunch is the series of trans 51, 76, etc. relates to not only torque input but I'd *think* some relationship to...
