Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

Right? From his video you'd think he's Tom Sheppard 350 miles from a human in the middle of the Sahara by himself without means for rescue.....I'm SURE he had cell coverage in places on some of those mountains and he obviously had a InReach he could have reached out to a friend and gotten a...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

I wonder how much these 'influencers' actually spend....he calls out several of his sponsors: "Presented by"; Norweld "In association with"; FWC Whatever he does spend, he can write off as business expense.... The conspiracy theory in me thinks these things are sometimes staged, he wouldn't...

Well said, now I wanna know about the Cadillac Man, please share!

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

What a *$(#ing drama queen, sitting in front of the camera wiping the tears from his eyes with his woah is me attitude....who has time for that crap when you think your life is on the line? I'm sure I'll get 'boomer' comments (I'm not one) but I get a bit tired of these documentary type films...

For sure, you are trading complexity (turbos) for displacement, it's something Toyota did/has done forever, well up until this past year with their twin turbo in the Tundar/LC. The old cruisers and frankly even the 4runners/Tacomas, for their size, were relatively high displacement, average...

    INEOS Grenadier

I know they'd likely not be able to hit emissions and fuel mileage, etc, but something like the GM "connect and cruise" concept would have been cool, I wish there was somebody using these in an Ineos style mass produced rig here domestically....and no, the $250k Landcruisers do not count Here...

    INEOS Grenadier

Well said - I think we can all get behind the concept, modern engines are well made and reliable but the best vehicles out there for overlanding over the years had 50+ years of development and refinement and were intentionally more simple than other competing vehicles using decades old tech; old...

    INEOS Grenadier

Came here to say exactly the same thing. There is a guy that I follow on YouTube that tears down engines and watching him deal with reparability / constructability issues boggles my mind (mostly on the Euro rigs), how on earth anybody thought some of that was a good idea is beyond me. You...

    High mileage and trips

But in N America parts availability for these rigs is getting very slim vs Africa & S America where they are everywhere and people are familiar with the rigs to repair.

    Brake Pads for Overweight Tacoma

Sure look pretty but I'd be dubious of long term reliability, we know the stock stuff works well long term but these are just high end, boutique brakes that (IMO) would be questionable over many miles.

    Toyota Trail Hunter Line up

They should at least have a Tundra "HD" package, base model with upgraded whatever to get it to lightweight 3/4 T or heavy 1/2 T specs, ~2000 lb payload.....will ride rough, will be sluggish, will sit rear high.....cool, they'll get some of that middle ground back, guys waffling on Toyota vs...

Thoughts on 2023 Ford Super Duty for Family Travel?

That is cool, 58 gallons, not to shabby...

    Brake Pads for Overweight Tacoma

It's certainly a good start vs just throwing on larger calipers and saying brakes are upgraded like many do....it's at least quantitative and modeled vs thrown together based on perceived benefit or "intuition".

    Brake Pads for Overweight Tacoma

I'm won't debate but you seem to be justifying your brake upgrade based on howling tires.....there is a LOT more to braking than locking up brakes, specifically heat management which is still going to be an issue. 235's were standard on 3/4 & 1 ton trucks not to long ago and all overseas...

    Toyota Trail Hunter Line up

Part in bold used to be true....but is certainly is not anymore. The only rig you have that has much in common with overseas rigs is your 99', drivetrain wise at least....your 08 has a bit in common with the Prado but more different than the same and your 2011, outside of maybe engine platform...

The cool thing about the FJ40....and 55/60/70s, is the rear diff and front diff are exactly the same. Probably not realistic to swap diffs in the field, but in a remote village with very basic tools you could swap out that rear diff with your front one and at least have a rwd rig.

Without context that doesn't mean much to me, how many does a Gren have? A good portion of those are not critical, annoying yes, but if your seat memory modules goes belly up you can still make it home. Engine and transmission wise, I don't see the difference between any modern BMW or Rover...

    Toyota Trail Hunter Line up

I'd say the new age diehards....I honestly see some of the older Toyota crew kinda losing interest in Toyota products these days and stepping up to the more interesting domestic options.....especially with the newer rigs like the Bronco's that have a bit of that old school Toyota flair akin to...

Honest question - what does the Rover have (electronic wise) that the Gren doesn't or any alternative doesnt? I know the Gren has a manual Tcase, anything else?

    Toyota Trail Hunter Line up

100% agree and first thing I thought too...they are late to the game, but that seems to be how Toyota rolls...always conservative. Maybe they know something we don't but my hunch is right there with yours.
