    INEOS Grenadier

You'd need a new transmission if you plan on swapping in a LS, the trans is designed for a max of 370 ft/lbs.

Maybe the 8HP51 was lightened up for fuel economy reasons over the 8HP50? With all due respect to the other vehicles you list that use the trans, like the Jeep comment I made which uses the same trans, nobody uses adjectives like "robust" when describing their drivetrains so why does IG get a...

    Ineos Grenadier Sub Forum

Still breaks the ethos of how they have marketed this HD / Defender replacement by using a engine and trans (they are effectively an engineered unit so should be used in the same breadth) out of no other vehicle besides a lightweight passenger car. It's proven itself well in the field...

I guess the issue I have is you hear Scott in the vid say things like "axles built by company the specialize in tractors" and "very robust ZF 8 speed transmission".....based on what? It's a bit disingenuous and misleading (IMO). Based on Scott's background I would have expected something like...

'Should be', I agree, but the same people saying this is a heavy duty world class expedition vehicle are the same ones saying Jeeps are not. When you get down to the nuts and bolts, how wouldn't a Jeep Wrangler with the same trans be better or just as good? Based on the price of the Jeep...

    Ineos Grenadier Sub Forum

It has 6 lug axles so I'd guess 1/2T (at best) and it would seem that putting 1T axles on this would be massively overbuilding for intended use. Also worth pointing out, the gas/petrol version uses the 8HP51 trans which is a light duty trans used in rings like the Supra/Lightweight BMW sedans...

Grenadier Questions and Answers? Post'em Up

I have not seen any input on specifics on transmission, where did you hear that? *Edit - unless things have changed, according to this article I don't think it's as lucky as you think: https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/2023-ineos-grenadier-price-and-specs "both engines come mated to a ZF...

Grenadier Questions and Answers? Post'em Up

Q1) Maintenance requirements; how have they thought through maintenance requirements and workflow around the engine and trans. The B58 is a well known engine with well known problematic maintenance requirements (Vanos / rear timing chain); are there workaround to maintain these and or local...

2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD OffRoad w Flatbed Tray and Canopy

What is the weight of the tray setup over the stock bed?

    INEOS Grenadier

Exactly - this is what I think Ineos should address, maintenance....I'm sure they've thought through this? I'd hope the independent dealers are prepared to drop engines or pull sheet metal to work on the engines as needed, but I have my doubts.

    INEOS Grenadier

Cab pulls seems extreme but doesn't seem like it's that bad in practice - particularly for a shop that is set up and whom have a good workflow around it.

    INEOS Grenadier

It's not a myth - there are car and truck engines, specifically designed as such....like some of the obscure 'big block's' like the Chevy 366, long stroke, heavy 4 ring pistons, etc. Car engines are designed to a very aggressive price point and for fuel savings these days....those ones you list...

ATrac and Torsen vs Triple locker

I'd had rigs with open diffs, selectable lockers, LSD, etc. I think for expedition use you've described a front locker is totally overkill. I think a rear selectable locker and open front is a nice reasonably simple and cost effective setup.

    INEOS Grenadier

It's 100% likely unless you wanna push services intervals or expect to get rid of it sooner rather than later - I haven't seen any official documentation, but most timing chains are ~90-100k miles so on par with the Vanos if that data is correct, which is a full engine drop in a shop + $XXXX...

    INEOS Grenadier

Judging from that pic - it's a engine pull to do a timing chain just like the BMW's along with everything else tucked in there just like a BMW. I think any / all of us can hop on the BMW forums to get a sense of how reliable these are along with what sort of maintenance req. will be needed. I...

Based on the interview w/Scott here: https://expeditionportal.com/episode-128-grenadier-prototype-first-off-road-drive-impressions/ I thought this was relevant: Scott Brady: Yeah. It’s, you know, time’s gonna tell. I, I think that based upon everything I can see and the people that they have...

    INEOS Grenadier

It's amazing with big V8's get these days, my 2001 Tacoma w/3.4 + manual gets the same HWY mileage as my 2021 2500 Ram w/6.4 + auto...basically exactly double the power in a straight axle rig that weighs 3000 lbs more. My 2019 Ranger w/2.3L EB would get 19-22, but ~12 pulling a trailer. My...

Used Hard 1957 Series I - Retired to Daily Driver Status

I remember looking at this magazine and reading the article several times back in 06 (I think) while I was in Hawaii for a trip....it has always stuck with me all these years as one of my favorite rigs.

    INEOS Grenadier

I'd have a hard time believing the axles are the size of a full size pickup - even the Toyota 70 series have much smaller axles than full size rigs and nobody upgrades those. It would be completely overkill to have 1-T axles in a rig this size. Gotta remember everything needs to play and work...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

It's insulting to our intelligence to be honest - watching fake documentaries like that. Maybe I am getting old (I am) but I also remember a time when Discovery channel showed stuff that was interesting and legit and TLC aka "THE LEARNING CHANNEL" had actual stuff you could learn about vs Honey...
