    Tex's 2023 KTM 300 XC-W

That is AWESOME! I really want one of those factory Rally bikes....with a plate :) They are ~$30k, you can buy one, I've thought about it.... When did he finish the tour? *Edit - you can buy a "replica", I am sure some of the stuff on that bike there is not easily obtained...

    Towing a 16ft Airstream with a 4runner? Other alternatives?

New Airstreams, at least over the last 3-4 years, are cheaper new than used. We sold our 2019 Bambi for $5k more than we bought if for 3-4 months ago....go figure. Doubt that market will continue but who knows...

    Towing a 16ft Airstream with a 4runner? Other alternatives?

Do the math on your Tundra assuming 10-15% tongue weight and max trailer weight and let me know what the number say :)

To each their own, mousses are popular these days, but I don't care for them. I do a fair amount of long distance remote single track stuff (e.g. Tour of Idaho) and the general consensus is no mousse no tubliss. Quality tubes, generally speaking, are less headache.....you example...

The bigger the truck, the greater the (misplaced?) concern about payload?

I was posting it more to show the CoG requirements relative to what @rruff was suggesting are never taken into account: It's confusing you are right....I do remember another chart, sim to the one I posed, with reduced payload based on slide in camper use but can't find it....

I need to upgrade my truck to a 250/2500

Trailers put different loads on rigs and if they are 15k lbs they obviously have brakes. I think it's safe to say driving up a steep incline over loose rocks in 4wd low is not a use case a manuf is going to model while towing a 15k trailer..... The rear axle can handle that....no disagreement...

    Towing a 16ft Airstream with a 4runner? Other alternatives?

Big difference between "cant" and "shouldn't"....there is no question, towing full time like he wants to do, there are absolutely better rigs out there than a 4runner....

Can you plate that where you live? I've stuck with tuned EXCF's over the last several years due to street legality, toyed with the XCF's, but keep coming back to the big bore 500's for the riding I do. Cool bike, KTM's keep getting better every year!

As a FYI, Ford does have slide in camper specs:

No testing standards? I beg to differ....there are many SAE standards that car manuf use.....if this went to court they'd show the SAE standard (copied below) they used, backed by design and engineering data..... https://www.sae.org/standards/content/j135_201304/ This SAE Recommended Practice...

    Towing a 16ft Airstream with a 4runner? Other alternatives?

Yeah - same as new, I am sure there are some maintenance stds. related to spring degradation and sagging....

As defined by NHTSA or other governing bodies...I'm no expert but you can do the research: https://www.nhtsa.gov/

The bigger the truck, the greater the (misplaced?) concern about payload?

Like I said, their testing protocol and engineering decisions will defend them if they went about it properly....aka, they met federal/state/national testing standards and engineering decisions were based on sound practice.
