I have been wondering about something like this since I read papawheely's build thread and the Centramatic balancing system he uses. Thinking it would allow me to just buy tires online at the cheapest price as I wouldn't need to worry about balancing the tires (which for me would require a...
Really nice work! This looks great. Do you recall any specs on the various size metal you used? wall etc for the rectangular tubing....the round tubing- are the pieces connecting the rock rail to the frame the same size/thickness as the "step rails" on the outside? Obviously stout enough if you...

The adjustable tie downs I was thinking about are like the ones Ilatak has in his post #40 in this thread:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/127843-My-LR3-lightweight-storage-platform-build-(UPDATED-actual-dimensions-on-pg-4)/page4?highlight=perkj
And for the tie down "posts"...
An alternative to bolt down D rings (with the need to waterproof the bolts) would be to have a local weld shop weld in some d-rings (I am assuming the trailer box is steel? But if it's aluminum you could still have it tigged). I like the option of moving the tie down points so you could get the...
Rayra- I agree with you....CARB compliance did not result in a 400% or more increase in manufacturing costs. Especially not when the "compliance" piece is molded plastic and a spring.
I thought 80 was a lot for them but they make a great case for these when compared to all the others that look similar but clearly arent. I had no idea they could float when full? Wow....
Ditto this. I am in the same stage as the OP- planning a welder purchase and my first thought was things I could do to my utility trailer, etc. But after reading a lot of threads on one of the weldingweb forums about trailer fails and the dangers of weak welds I won't be doing anything to any...
Really great build. I like your "bombproof" approach. Well thought out. I too like to carry everything and the kitchen sink with me so appreciate your pics and build process, thank you.
I would go with the GM....but you'll find just as many guys who say go with the Ford. But I like the 5.3. I have a Yukon with it and am at 237K miles. Been across country twice....once towing a 24' trailer. Yeah I-70 coming back into Denver (towing the trailer) was a bee-atch but other than that...
I have been playing with various options in my mind (and on paper) for mine. I have a Yukon so not as long as a Burb but same basic premise- I would use two or even three depending on what you want to have (in mine I am planning one drawer to be a slide out kitchen (stove etc.)). Also with three...
Looks like a great trip! Wouldn't you like to know what spooked your dog? Was it something real or just a doggy boogie man? :) gotta love a dog's intuition some times. Thanks for sharing.
