    Build Thread: Burni

The extended truck is a Hino 921, the most interesting part was the front axle weight change. With the 800mm extension being where it is, the good news was to put a crane in and run it off the PTO. The bad news was the increased weight on the front axle as a result of the rear axle now being...

    Build Thread: Burni

Not quite the same truck, but in the same class (MR) this has had an 800mm chassis extension. The extension is between the cabin and the tipper body. Trust me when I say have seen this moving around, sharp or even looking like sharp corners are diabolical. Ramp over, while it is running small...

    The long slow FG build!

I'm quite surprised that you don't have a fuel breather line, along with differential, transmission and transfer case breather lines for wading issues. Mick.

    Isuzu FTR 4x4

After the conversion, the Isuzu is now an FTS model, albeit an aftermarket FTS. Looks good, fortunately one cannot see the transfer case hanging low ready to catch on things, unlike a different smaller model Isuzu with a 4x4 conversion I've seen pictures of.

2020 Northstar Liberty - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

Looks are deceiving, we have the same unit CR110 = 110 Litres. Ours is almost 14 years old. When we purchased it it was in the middle of our winter, which by your standards is mild and warm. We went away as one does, even though it was wet and cold (+5ºC) and found that the refrigerator kept on...

Engaging 4WD High without locking hubs (FG649)

Bingo! Took a little bit of thinking for me to realise exactly what you were saying, dead right. Mick.

Engaging 4WD High without locking hubs (FG649)

Yes, and easy to do some real damage. Isuzu with their NPS model restricts the torque output in low range first and reverse gears from 419Nm to 377Nm, but even then, if you give it a handful you could be literally stretching things. Not at all sure about the Mitsubishi brand of vehicles though.

2020 Northstar Liberty - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

That looks like the 80 litre version, we have the 110 litre version, same compressor though just works a bit longer. Very impressive cooling capacity, ours has worked well at 47ºC in full sun on a few occasions, although at that temperature the compressor is pretty much running full time. Neat...

Engaging 4WD High without locking hubs (FG649)

I have an Isuzu NPS with the same front differential from ATW, yes it is the excellent Quaife ATB unit (Torsen type). Last year we crossed from bitumen in pouring rain to a very slippery dirt road on the Eyre Peninsula, I pressed the 4WD button only to be hit with a screeching mechanical noise...

    Canter slide on build/adaption

Looks very good and at that price, perfect. The rear slide-out kitchen is going to be a bit on the high side though, or is your tray quite low? We have a slide-on camper on the back of an Isuzu NPS, four bolts hold it in place going through the aluminium tray and directly through the steel...

    School Me on Heavy Trucks

If you are looking at second hand Japanese based older Isuzu trucks and can live with the steering wheel on the right side; then the clue you need in your searches is in the three letter Isuzu description of their trucks. In Isuzu speak the three letters of each vehicle denote various things...

Canadian Hino Ranger FT 4x4 Crewcab

kg/cm2 is a normal way to express air pressure in metric countries, as is Bar and kPa. To help you a little, think of 1 kg/cm2 being very close to one atmosphere, with 5 kg/cm2 being under but sort of close to 5 atmospheres of measurement. I would think your truck will probably sit between...

Canadian Hino Ranger FT 4x4 Crewcab

In the middle of the instrument panel, is the air pressure indicator. kg/cm² which probably sits somewhere around 10-12 kg/cm² for normal running. I think it started around 5 kg/cm² then was slowly rising to around 6.5 kg/cm² on the last image as you swept the camera over the instrument...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

Charlie, you make an interesting point about deflating and inflating times. Not having any prior exposure to a CTIS it took a while to understand that our CTIS takes its time by doing both exercises in spurts. It will deflate the axles for a bit, check the pressure, then further deflate. As it...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

Interesting about the hollow axles. I remember reading that a CTIS was available for the new OKA range, but that is all I knew. Unicat in Germany, do their inbuilt CTIS on MAN trucks with special order hollow axles; saw a Unicat MAN in Iceland and spoke to the owner about it, among other...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

I have no doubt that it is possible we may do the same thing, that said, with where we have been with super tight heavily overgrown sections and a wide for the track vehicle, so far we have managed to train line the truck on both sides high and low with the pipes, and coming out scot free. An...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

Dan, it is a bit on the pricey side, but the more you look into this system, the more you see what you are getting. Fortunately for us, we purchased ours more or less at the end of a 3 year price freeze due to Covid. The current price is more than what we paid, but knowing now what we do, we...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

I've done a couple of wheel rotations this year, having the CTIS fitted has made minimal difference to the overall rotation procedure. First cab off the rank is to use a brake line clamp, had these for decades and they work perfectly. One clamps the air line, then you remove it from the...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

Going off their current price list issued in May 2022, and this is for a 4X4 Flat Guard Kit, Drive and Steer, you will be looking at $9,240.00 AUD plus GST. This is for the componentry only, and does not include a compressor. Flat guard refers to the type of mudguards that are fitted, which...

    Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)

In December 2021 I visited their factory to ascertain the viability of fitting a CTIS to the front wheels of our truck. Our truck has been modified by All Terrain Warriors in Qld with, among other things, a complete suspension change. The steering wheels have a 600mm arc of articulation and with...
