Building a trailer is great fun. I would do it again, but I got mine mostly right on the first try! :D ;)
Take this for what it is worth, but if doing a trailer over agian, I would consider the following first:
1. Do I have the skills to do this myself. (You will need welding, design...
I have been running Action Packers for almost 10 years. They do OK with rain and water when standing still, but anything more than a drizzle while driving and I have found everything inside gets a good soaking. I run the 40 with the top off most of the year and the lack of being waterPROOF is...
Thanks man, Canyonlands Nat'l Park on the White Rim trail, that is at the Murphy's Campsite. Its an amazing place. I setup about 10' from the edge and had an amazing sunset and sunrise too.
To the original post. I would think a half rack in the back of your pickup with a roof top tent (RTT) would give you all the benefits of not sleeping on the ground, and storing your stuff underneath it in the bed. The 22re would get taxed pretty quick even with an ultra light trailer setup...
Most of those tents are built with an "awning" or changing room option. I think it would be difficult to add one that didn't originally have that option. Call the tent manufacturer and see what options your tent might have available.
On another note, is that Henry's old trailer? Or did you...
If you have too many projects going on, let me know, I'll take it off your hands and modify it to get it up and running... I think it is a really cool platform for a home built job. I'm just down the road from you.
Wow, I still can't get over how inefficient the kitchen/interior space is set up. I mean its like a 1000# stove and sink. Wierd to kill that much storage space for a slide out kitchen.
I agree, I can't afford an AT so I built my own. Martyn and Mario chimed in on numerous occasions just to lend a sage word of advice. I hope I can trade up into one of their trailers someday. They have my respect and admiration, and I hate to see folks who work so hard get jipped by copy-cats.
I use a few different tents depending on the trip and who I am going with.
I used this Walrus (now bought by MSR) Arc-II it is a great tent that is a true 4 season tent with a bomb-proof fly. The setup/teardown is slow, but otherwise it is WARM and uber quiet in heavy winds. It is showing its...
I do this as well. I found two cheap-o caribiners work well to support my hiking pack too. If I have my bladder inside the pack I get a 2 for 1. Simple and effective... and most people have a few biners laying around.
Here is a shot of my electrical setup in my home made trailer. I have from right to left...
shore power inlet plug
2 bank charger
2 115 amp hour batteries
1/1/2 battery switch isolator
6 switch panel
3 12v outlets
The switches control:
RTT lights
Water Pump
LED Camp lights
3 open slots
Hope...
springtail solutions makes a nice product for that...

If you are handy, it shouldn't be hard to come up with something that will work. I use a simple paracord to attach a MSR water bladder behind my seat when wheelin'. I bet something similar...
