The internal space for one. It really feels roomy, not confined.

Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) BASE-CAMP Pickup Camper - Soft-Wall and Hard-Wall Versions

That water closet just strikes me as a big stone anchor. A lot of mechanicals including batteries all the way in the back, maybe fresh water also. I like the dual stovetop, but would the Truma Combi not work and have less complicated systems? No pass-through on this one. Like to see underneath...

ATO AterraXL composite flatbed camper (pagoda roof)

The HBE really needs a rethink on the interior setup me thinks.

ATO AterraXL composite flatbed camper (pagoda roof)

Number one thing that impressed me about the AterraXL was how roomy it felt, and the internal storage.

ATO AterraXL composite flatbed camper (pagoda roof)

The large price jump is something I spoke to Arnold about. I've posted in the HBE thread where I asked hime if a 9 foot HBE could be offered. It will be interesting to see what HowardH thinks of his Base Camp.

ATO AterraXL composite flatbed camper (pagoda roof)

Would be interesting to see TC, Bear, etc. with an 8ft flatbed model with full interior comparable to AterraXL / OEV Hudson Bay hardwall including an indoor shower.

ATO AterraXL composite flatbed camper (pagoda roof)

Well OEV is doing the hard wall version of the HBE, see how that compares. Definitely need more user reports on the AterraXL. I'm interested to see how you do in cold weather.

I don't believe it will be an issue. They seem to have a close business relationship, and he speaks highly of the OEV product.

Howard, Any initial thoughts on changing suspension, upgrades, wheels, and tire size?

    New Overland Explorer Base Camp

I believe the 20-gallon option is meant for tow trucks, to downsize from the 40-gallon, not to increase to 60 gallons total. Ordering is clear as mud sometimes.

    New Overland Explorer Base Camp

Looks like a nice shakedown cruise. Max weight on your platform is 11,500 lbs.? Max payload @4100 lbs.? Did you have a chance to weigh the truck before the installation?

2021 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-HBE pop-up flatbed pickup camper (renamed the "Hudson Bay" for 2023 model year)

Moving the CG forward is helpful but I also look at recovering some of the storage under the dinette seats. The AterraXL is way ahead on internal storage. Going with a chest fridge opens up the current space for some slide out drawers.
