    My 02 Avalanche NFE

The 1/2 ton bars are 54" (if I'm recalling correctly - if they aren't 54" then they are 52"). I do think the 3/4 ton bars are a different length and do not swap over. But, the barcodes I listed were printed at a GM dealer as viable options for my 1/2 ton Av. I hear you on the codes - mine was...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Craig - yes same here - my CST keys are dialed up so it effectively increases the spring rate. But, I was shocked to find out that on my North Face Edition the factory installed base model rear coil springs and base model front torsion bars. There are multiple stiffness levels beyond stock. //...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

It does push me back so it makes accessing from the front a little harder. However, It's now wide enough that I can just stand on it. LOL

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Nice - they do make a big difference. Now I'm debating going to a stiffer torsion bar as well. GM sure is proud of them though...........

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

ABS runs on a 60amp fuse - but my switch panel in the new console is 25Amp switches. I spoke with an auto electrician and he is going to help me find the relay for it and I'll switch off of that using one of the spares in my console.

Rear awning versus 270 deg awning

Check out the Rhino-Rack Dome awning. It goes on the back and is only 51"W, but then extends out to 94"x98". I have one on order.

Convince me I need a fridge!

Lots of great advice in this thread. We were using some older low dollar Igloos. Since we are in SoCal, we tend to be in the deserts where it's hotter and we go through A LOT of ice. During a sale, I picked up a 65QT Artic cooler which did better on our last trip but we still had the "food...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Now - I'm waiting for the RTT. Just got all of the fridge stuff: ARB 63 fridge/freezer, harness, transit bag, slide - so I'll be mounting all of that soon. Also, putting the ABS on a switch so I can turn it off when off-road. Had a pretty hairy moment in Death Valley when the ABS decided to kick...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Here is the new stance of the Avalanche. Overall, with the new suspension it raised my truck 1" - the new height at the bottom center of my fender is 40.5" on all four corners. The shocks are superb - hitting dips at high speed the truck soaks them up and neutral out very quickly and does not...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

I don't know why the pics of my roof rack won't post, but we added scene lights to the sides and rear for camping and 2 15" LED spot bars facing forward to provide higher light when in OHV areas.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

I will admit, I purchased the cheap Amazon Chinese light bars for both my roof and front bumper. The roof one absorbed moisture and died. The bumper one took a direct hit from a rock on the highway (!!!) and broke the lens - it still worked but the crack scattered the light to everywhere but in...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Suspension was re-addressed given my new found habit of adding weight (roofrack, overbed rack, RTT, fridge, and more stuff for longer duration). As I've mentioned before my truck was the project truck for the Eibach Pro Truck Sport shocks - and those things are pretty dang awesome - zero...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Given the longer wheelbase I wanted some rocker protection. No one makes an actual slider for the Avalanche and the ones I've seen hang down too far for my taste. I wanted something as high and tight as I could get and have them welded in for strength. We fabbed these up: // //

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

We have the Napier tent that goes in the bed of my Avalanche. Great little tent for weekending, but wanted something more stout for longer durations. Decided to go for a RTT, which means an overbed rack. Tons of research and no one makes one for my Avalanche. So, I designed one with everything I...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Lets see if a console pic will work. I had mounted my Lowrance in the original console but was never really happy with how low it was - needed to be slightly higher. I also had mounted my switches in the knee bolster to my right - again not a big fan. 4WP had mounted the ARB compressor and...

RTT on Chevy 1500 5ft bed

I was in the same boat - but I wanted to go high enough to be able to load on top of my caps. The bed of the Avalanche is a tad over 5' also. I drove out to Frontrunner - but they wanted a lot of money and I stood on their rack and it was flexing quite a bit with me on it (#240) - so that didn't...

New to the Hobby and New to the boards!

Welcome and good luck with the build. Others have posted some pretty solid advice, so I won't repeat, but instead will try a few other offerings. First, plan to be able fit gear for 4 people because as your kid gets older, sooner or later he'll want to bring a friend along. Along with that will...

    Ham Antenna Location

Thanks for all the info guys - much appreciated. AS for grounding - hmmm - I think I need to redo my roof rack - I mounted rubber between it and my roof to help with vibration and sealing - but per your info - think I took away the grounding by doing that - dang it. Antenna, Antennas, and...
