Custom Trailer to haul "Toad" vehicle (vs flat-tow)

Here’s a thought: What if instead of a trailer you made a quick-release bracket to mount a wheel and airbag suspension to the midpoint of each side of the tracker frame? Then you could use a relatively simple tow bar that “lifts” the tracker off of its wheels, basically turning it into a...

    PRO WIRING INSTALLERS?

Are you looking for design/layout or just installation? I’m guessing from the wording in the post that you are going to ask for some sort of sponsorship or discount in exchange for the publication and social media coverage?

    High voltage alternator

I think I’ve seen fire trucks do similar with various pumps. Even if this was impractical, it would definitely be geek-chic cool! 😎 Bonus points if you incorporate a winch and air compressor!

    High voltage alternator

I’m guessing you will have challenges transmitting 7.5 kW through a regular automotive style serpentine belt and might need another drive system. Finding the brackets and pulleys might require so much customization that you cost yourself a fortune and end up with a non field-repairable...

Custom Trailer to haul "Toad" vehicle (vs flat-tow)

Do you know the wheelbase, outside tire width, and front / rear weight distribution of the tracker? I was thinking along the lines of that top SxS pic you posted, but having the full length ramp is waste, all you really need is the spine and something to lift the wheel.

    Engineering / Fresno CA

After a really successful recruiting trip to SWE 23 in LA, I believe the internships are spoken for. One of the full time positions is also in process.

Custom Trailer to haul "Toad" vehicle (vs flat-tow)

Lots of pros and lots of cons come to mind. Is the trailer for any sort of rough / off rod use? Does the tracker break down frequently and need a ride? It seems like the best bet would be something in the super-light skeletonized and specific only to getting the tracker off the ground...

    Alternative fuels for small firepit?

I haul and burn almost exclusively off cuts from my various woodworking projects. Find a custom cabinet shop or flooring contractor and ask to dumpster dive. A bucket of chicken can move mountains with respect to getting permission. Very few thing burn as nicely in a campfire as unfinished...

    Nobo 16.5 axle advice needed

Is this the same axle? Looks to be stock… https://apextrailersupply.com/4400-lb-89-5-hf-59-25-id-torsion-axle-22-down-electric-brake-6x5-5/

    Nobo 16.5 axle advice needed

Triangulating that axle tube up to the side of the frame with an additional weld-saddle and a simple steel channel would be super cheap. I would also be shocked if it solves the problem. Looking zoomed in on your pics I really don’t think your axle being cantilevered too far is the problem.

    Nobo 16.5 axle advice needed

Have you put a square on the hub/axle without the tire and then under load? It is possible that your tube is still straight but the torsion element is damaged or worn? Do you have a close-up pic of the tire wear? Does the wear match? What type of tires?

    Nobo 16.5 axle advice needed

It is really hard to see the bend in your pictures. How did you notice it? Tire wear? How severe is it? I’ve chased down and attempted to replace bent axles on my car hauler before…. It never turned out to be worth the effort. Changing tires a little more often was much more economical for...

    Any JK ABS failures?

After several days and close to 800 miles, with at least 1/2 on crazy winding mountain roads, I’m pretty confident that the threaded connection corrosion was causing the issue. I’ve had zero problems, and two successful “proper” abs activations as I was braking hard on bumpy corners. So… thank...

    Engineering / Fresno CA

This seems like an interesting / good idea. I’m not 100% sure that posting all of the requested information here is in conformance with company policies about recruiting, so I’ll limit to this: I still have Engineering Intern openings for Summer 2024 within a short commute of Fresno / Clovis /...

    Newbie Questions.....

That seems like a lot to unpack. My initial thought is that wiring a topper to run everything off a power station is at odds with the goal of a power station. Wire and plan on installing a battery, then use your power station as a secondary source if and when portability is needed. For the...

    Any JK ABS failures?

Wow. I feel like it it too soon to say, but definite progress! I found hidden corrosion in the female threads of a screw-on battery post. After carefully polishing every battery or power connection I could find and continuity checking every ground identifiable on the wiring diagram, I did not...

    Any JK ABS failures?

That is interesting. I did “check” them, and they are tight, but I can certainly pursue the free options first and spend a little time with the Dremel and a wire brush making them perfect. I’ve found that they don’t truly tighten any longer, simply due to design of the little sheet metal clamp...

    Any JK ABS failures?

I ran a continuity test from the ground wires to battery negative post. There don’t seem to be any opens but I don’t really talk now what the resistance should be. Next time I unplug the module I will continuity test from pin to battery negative post. Today I watched steering angle while...

    Any JK ABS failures?

All conditions when moving. Not associated with cornering, doesn’t appear to be wheel speed related (near perfect matches from all sensors) and there is no randomness or variability in the steering wheel angle signal, so not expecting a clock spring problem. I’m also in a warm/dry...

    Any JK ABS failures?

So, I’m at my wits end. I may be making irrational decisions. A few weeks ago my 2014 JKUR at about 162k miles suddenly started sounding a chime and flashing a bunch of warning lights while driving on twisty mountain roads. It would cut power, the Speedo would fall toward zero, and various...
