    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Sure...I can go buy a used 60, 80, D90, whatever....but its so used. Everything has decades of wear on it.....all the windows, wipers, interior, linkages, pumps, weatherstipping, brakes, etc....corrosion, outdated materials everywhere, hard to get parts. So lame.. Saying to just go buy...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

The FJ55 and FJ60 shared the same heavy duty running gear as the FJ40. They were just a bit longer, that's it. That lineage holds up. It's not just the body shape that makes up an entire vehicle. I don't agree with the 100 and 200 being called land cruisers....but at least Toyota offers more...

Like was mentioned before....this debacle could have been avoided if 1 single person with common sense had spoken up at the preliminary meetings on this vehicle and pleaded to "not sully the Defender name and image" What makes this new, rebodied D5, a 'Defender'? Those marketing vids are cool...

Ford super duty has manual hubs. Point is, manufacturers go to all sorts of technically complex ways to eek out 1 mpg. Turbos, stop start, cylinder deactivation, strapping on electric motors, auto ride height, etc. Added cost and complexity, which inherently lowers reliability and longevity...

I do blame the gov't for most of the countries ills, not getting cool cars is at the top of that list. I do know that CAFE plays a huge part. Fine, give me turbo 4.....but why are they using engines different from the Disco? That can't be a cheap decision. Manual hubs also help MPG and...

And? I can get a base model, 4wd, 4 door, 6 speed manual, soft top, with rear limited slip for $30,418. Auto is $2750 more. What is the top price for a fully loaded D90 and D110?

Nobody, in the ENTIRE world, would buy one? Quite the statement, and incorrect. Even the 2wd unibody Freelander sold. JLR would go out of biz? The truck would have OPTIONS of choosing up or down in luxuries.

Manual windows and locks, as an example of what COULD have been...didn't necessarily have to be (removable doors?!), when you are tasked to recreate what made the Defender, the Defender. Maybe YOU don't want manual windows, but that would make it cheaper, more reliable, simpler, and overall less...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

No one is advocating for 1975 push start trucks here. I don't want a strictly offroad truck off the dealer lot. Roxors aren't street legal for the most part. Where did I say no airbags or seat belts or crumple zones? I don't listen to cassetes or want a cassete player. Putting words in my...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Nope....no one is clamoring for that overbuilt expedition truck as a factory vehicle. The aftermarket has that covered. There are examples of a variety of manufacturers taking a model and updating it slightly as the market and regs change. JLR already builds a variety of 'world' cars that are...

Weak argument. Not relevant. What I described was made, road legal for the masses, not that long ago, by a few manufacturers. It can be done, and as a benefit, it would be cheaper. All of the parts already existed, aside from strengthening the body to meet current regs.

Sexy? Where? The new bronco and baby bronco are swing and misses too. Cramming tech into a car is not always the answer. How about a manual trans, manual t case, manual hubs (for the MPG), a tried and true NA motor, and solid axles? Built for the long haul, nothing extra. If you're going...

Ha...For the most part, bushwhacker flares ruin the look of the vehicle. They are so cheap and hacky looking.

    Drug Dealer?

Air springs are in no way more reliable than a metal spring....or even the same. You have the pump, lines, rubber that degrades faster then metal, sensors and electronics for height adjustment, and just generally more parts to the assembly which inherently increases risk of failure. Yea....metal...

    New Defender News

So silly that towing capacity would even be a topic of convo for a Defender. They Defender is supposed to be the rugged, no frills, reliable, only what you need model. LR already has plenty of models for all other needs and wants. Wonder why that was such a hard concept for them to grasp?

What would you do? Chevrolet Silverado died

get a nice 2006 or 2007 4wd with the 5.3. No cylinder shut off non sense. They are bulletproof (trans is iffy, ask for any service records on that).....oh and rocker panel rust.
