    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Never heard anyone ever mention that before, or seen anyone do it. Seems quite silly. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Then why sully the Defender name? Why not just make a more 'offroad' version of the Discovery 5 if no one needs that last 1% capability. That's basically what they did, a more offroady Discovery, and slapped a Defender name on it, which spits in the face of the marque. JLR can make whatever...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

What does electrification have to do with anything? You can electrify anything. You can electrify a body on fame, coil sprung, solid axle vehicle. They were starting basically from new, they could have done anything. They could have made space/mounting for future batteries/motors all while...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

But that's the rub....the government didn't mandate any turbo/hybrid tech be added to this new vehicle. JLR has numerous N/A engines they could have used, for lower cost and less complexity sake, most likely with stop/start, but that can be programmed out. But they chose to add the complexity...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

I must have missed it (and also the thought never crossed my mind)....but does this new vehicle require premium fuel?! 450 ft-lbs of torque for what? 300 ft-lbs is sufficient with proper gearing. Also, your 30+ year old LR and MB diesels are worlds apart from the complex engines they are...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

@JackW You made my (and others point). JLR already makes a handful of IFS/IRS unibody vehicles that will handle your north rim visit or 12 hour cross country in comfort. Why slander the Defender name with more of the same? The new Defender could have held onto its rugged roots and still...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Ok. Yes, to nitpick, a Roxor can be made street legal in some instances in some states, but is not relevant to this discussion. The point is, the misguided top level people at TATA created an entirely new vehicle and slapped the Defender name on it, when in fact this new vehicle bares very...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

No they don't, not legal for US roads anyways. My point is, it's freaking Land Rover. Not Honda or Kia. The world is saturated with IFS / IRS unibody soft roaders. Even Land Rover has 5 or 6 of them already. They took the defender name and bastardized it...same with the new Blazer from Chevy...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Mechanical linkage steering, power. Trusted, [proven, cheap, dependable, easy to fix. No drive by wire, electric pumps and ECUs/Servos controlling steering control, as we are seeing now. The Wrangler is a great example of how to keep the heritage and name while making a brand new modern...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Did they sell more than twenty 2015 Defenders? Never once did I mention JLR building a truck that was held together with duct tape and electrical wire, like you see in the African bush. Toyota has killed the Land Cruiser name too. JLR is not the only guilty party. I don't want my 55 rebuilt...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

I hear this poorly thought out argument a lot. No is the answer. Make a Defender. Update it with current materials, modern design, engineering, and manufacturing standards. (cheaper, lighter, stronger, etc). Use a proven, time tested, reliable engine and trans combo. No turbo or hybrid or...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Same with the LC...JLR already has a handful of IFS/IRS luxo soft roaders.....why more of the same? Just make the Defender the rugged offroader...and if you want luxury, JLR has plenty of options for your...Range Rover, RR Sport, LR4/5, Discovery, Discovery Sport (******?), whatever For the...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

When JLR can prove, over a number of years, that they can make a reliable platform that doesn't depreciate off a cliff, then the LC guys may notice. Yes, sadly, Toyota has crashed and burned with the LC nameplate. Seems to be a trend with most automakers. I hope one day they can bring back...

The $264 1991 F250. Talk some sense into me

How many miles are you planning? Are you scared to drive it that many miles in general? All you can do is make sure it's in tip top shape and have some common spare parts, a good spare and jack, extra water and oil, jumper cables, and good brakes. Fresh AT tires would make a world of...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Didn't read the whole thread, but the answer to the original question is No. No solid front axle. No manual transmission. No completely stripped interior. Damped tailgate? Get real. It's great that people can get a 16 speaker stereo system in a truck, but make the stripped down model too...

Which Tacoma should I be looking for?

It's entirely your preference of number of doors, transmission, and bed length. No one here can (or should) tell you what to buy. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

1991 Range Rover turbo diesel swap

I like engine swaps, but that doesnt address your initial concerns...heater core, water pump, everything other than the engine and transmission can still fail as it would in any other vehicle. And it will. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
