Your camper is awesome, like the clean look it has but still has all the cool features you need. Rory does a great job on his campers and are a good bang for the buck.
....And what you won't hear about is the 35K you invested and the hundreds of hours spent in the garage is only worth 20K when you want to sell it. I enjoy seeing a nice old restored vehicle as much as anybody, just not with my time and money.
As for automakers building a simple, no frills...
I'am in the truck, camper and bumper pull trailer camp myself. After 5 years of full timing in RV's I have learned a lot about what works and what doesn't work, at least for our needs anyway. First and foremost you will find that there is no perfect RV there is just to many compromises that have...
I hear you on the 5er hitch, had a Reese 20K hitch and it was a 2 person job to remove from the truck. Might look into the Anderson aluminum hitch reviews are a bit mixed on them though.
Another piece of the puzzle we recently acquired and one of the reason for this truck build.
It's a 2018 Grand Design Reflection 297 RTST that is 34' long and has a GVWR of 10K lbs. which puts it well under the trucks 17K+ tow rating and 4K under GCWR so I should be good to go. I...
The camper looks great, lovin all the cool truck campers being built lately. Agree with java do a manual fuel mileage check, mine was off by about 1.5 mpg.
It is done quite often but usually to gain clearance for cab over or truck bed side due to mounting a camper that was not built to fit the truck it is being mounted on. It may or may not look like crap. I had a Power Wagon with a 6.5' bed and a 8' popup camper and never had a clearance issue but...
I think one of the reasons for the lower GVWR is at 10,001 lbs or more registration cost a lot more than the 10K rating, not a big difference between the trucks. My 10K rated truck is handling the weight just fine
Some more info on the camper and what I spec it out with.
I finally got around to weighing the camper and it came out to 2,140 lbs. which was about 100 lbs. less than Rory thought it would. This weight was with a empty water tank, full 20 lb. propane tank and no camping gear except a double...
Agree 100% with this. I showed up first thing on delivery day to find the owner Rory doing some final detail work on the camper. It was fun to hang out with them and get to know them better something I doubt would happen with a larger builder.
My flatbed is 9' long, I have a cab/chassis 1 ton which is why it's that long. Didn't do anything special on the flatbed, no headache rack and added 4 underbed storage boxes later. Instead of a seperate "garage" I had a custom made popup camper built that incorporated it into the camper body...
