Also thanks for all the other post, I'am quite the happy camper!!!
Sorry for the lack of follow up on this thread but have been extremely busy the last couple of weeks and early Sunday mornings is about the only time I get to play here on the Portal.
Now I just need to get out and do some Poppin'.
Thanks for reading my thread hope it helps in your decision making. At first I was leaning towards FWC as well but the lack of customization with them took them out of contention with me. If a custom build is not important to you then a FWC is a solid choice.
As far as how much off roading I...
No problem Steve, happy hunting on the perfect truck for you and Souix. Also glad to hear you talked to Bundutec about their campers, I'am sure they can build you what you want. If you can get down to the Grand Canyon I would be more than happy to show you our Bundutec.
Doug
Sorry for slow response Steve but Sunday mornings are the only time I can play on the Forum. As to your questions here are my thoughts:
1. Had the electronic transfer case shifter on my 2015 Ram and it worked fine but I just like a manual shifter (even though I prefer auto transmissions go...
Steve thanks for reading my build thread and glad it's been helpful for you. I only have about a inch of clearance at this time and if I have any issue with it touching the cab I will have to raise up the camper. By the way I have a build thread for the Bundutec camper on the pop up camper...
Thanks Alex. Did another MPG check that was closer to a 50/50 city hiway mix and I'm seeing right at 10 mpg average. See that your from Paso, my wife grew up just North of you in San Ardo.
Truck weight with the Bundutec camper on, water tank was empty, 20lb propane tank was full and no camp gear (except sleeping bags), Full tank of gas.
Gross weight: 9120lbs
Steer axle: 4160lbs
Drive axle: 4960lbs
The drive axle finally has more weight than the steer axle (800lbs). Have 880lbs...
That's one of the many reasons for getting a regular cab for me, crew cabs are great for carrying people at the cost of proper cargo weight distribution. The truck with camper on feels very balanced and handles well on the road.
The clearance between the cab and camper is a bit tighter than I...
Good lookin truck, love the PW. I would have gotten one again but unfortunately it can not tow as much as I need to tow. The 6.4L is a great engine indeed.
One of the reasons I went with Bundutec was they were willing to do a mostly custom build for me. In fact I got the feeling that Rory really likes to do custom work, something he couldn't do very much when he was at Northstar. My camper was based off their Bunducamp model but has quite a few...
Thought I should start a thread on my Bundutec flatbed camper build even though I have posted info on it in my truck build in the domestic full size truck section. There is not a lot of information out there on Bundutec yet and if your not checking out the full size truck threads you probably...
The trip to Iowa to pick up the camper gave me a chance to get some real world fuel mileage numbers. Although most of the miles I put on the truck on the trip were on Interstate/hiway there was still quite a bit of city driving and even a little in 4wd. On the way out to Iowa The truck was...
Update on the truck weight after the Wilco swing out tire carrier, aluminum underbed boxes and mud flaps were installed.
new weight of truck: 6,980lbs.
weight on steer axle: 3,840lbs.
weight on drive axle: 3,140lbs.
Added 200lbs to the truck. The steer axle lost 120lbs and the drive axle...
I get asked a lot "what's behind the big doors on both sides of the camper?"
It's one of my favorite features of this camper.
Basically it's a built in tunnel box. Internal dimension are 79"L x 35"W x 38"T. The storage area is mostly clear of obstructions just a little in the ceiling...
