The Nitto Trail Grappler has been a great tire with over 35,000 hard miles on the Disabled Explorers Sportsmobile with no flats or problems, and that was the 33's
Now I am loving the 35's even more as I can air down with better results running 11,000lbs with the van :)
Good luck on the sale as...
Hey I run the High Top Sportsmobile so I know what high center of gravity is :)
And since you already are up a ways over what others run I would not mess with adding more poundage up there.
All it takes in an emergency swerve on the highway, an unseen ditch on the trail or a soft sand spot on...
I had the crap scared out of me while camping this weekend.
Sportsmobile uses the Espar diesel air heaters and they rock, they can cook you right out of your rig with the amount of heat that is produced on a trickle of diesel.
And there is no combustion gases in the rig, so there should be no CO...
There is a company called Wheelchair Getaways that rents 2wd vans around the country, they are usually mini vans.
As far as I know there are no 4wd wheelchair vans for rent, including the Disabled Explorers Sportmobile, well until I my $75K loan paid off :)
Red Crocs,
Well thanks for the...
Just go get the 7 gal jugs for now and you can visit an RV shop (I know there are some in Socal) and get a 12v pump and showerhead combo that has a button for shutoff.
Or if you want how water showers go get a stainless bug sprayer and swap out the head for a rotating garden one with on/off...
great pics and looks like a fun area
thanks for the rockhound info, I didn't know any of that and going out often with Boy Scouts that is good stuff to know.
Granted I love my National Luna fridge and you will get my fake leg off of me before I would give that thing up.
But there is only so much room inside so it is good to know other ways to deal with food.
Here is a great read I found out of the sailing world...
This is another item they make that caught my eye....I like things that serve more than 1 purpose.

I was on a trip with Jim of RedOxx bags (killer bags by the way) and watching him fix up some amazing meals got me thinking about my own setup.
On of the things that I noticed is how he had made some custom shealths for his quality chef knives.
I liked this idea but wanted something a little...
totally agree on keeping it pretty stock as long as possible
I would also like to see pics of the factory tool kit & hand throttle setup, I dig those options.
Great find and it couldn't go to a better guy
HA see you should have stayed with the Acer and lived in PC land :)
Just giving you a hard time Ben, I know you guys are on the bleeding edge here and that can cause real hassle as you test products, buy/return and try to find the right combo...
trust me even us PC guys are watching this
first of all, you are in for some fun no matter what you get...they are all great choices.
Also I would recommend the sportsmobileforum.com as another great resource
SMB West (the only one of the three I would let build me anything) can build on a used diesel Ford van, plus I think they just...
the cutting board fridge lid is perfect, that is a great idea!
I really like the pace and thought you are putting into this build,
thanks for taking us along
Hey Larry,
thanks for giving us the cold hard truth about the diesel future in the USA.
I know when I look at the Aussie options and things aval outside the US I tend to forget about the emissions and profit margins that drive all of this....as much as it hurts thanks for the reality check...
I really think these sessions have much more value as a Q&A instead of a trip report.
The 1 way mode of a website or written 2 way of a forum works best for presenting an overview of a trip.
The value of a live session is interaction, the ability to ask questions and get answers and the emotions...
Based on my real world van use (I have solar but agree that it is overkill) I would say skip the solar, add the 2 batteries in the stock frame rail location and if you still find you have needs then add another battery.
If you are going to be moving every couple of days....which is what is great...
