looks like a nice time with the "family"
I always like the remote feel of that camp area, even though the big RV's are not far away it still feels solitary.
It is a blast to come in from the west on Indian Springs Road or something like that, a dirt short cut from Glamis.
Thanks for posting!
great writeup...
I would be nice to hear more thoughts on how the trailer did, it looks nice and lightweight which would help on the trail.
I don't know the area but have wanted to do this trail for a while, how would mid winter/early spring be?
anything past 6 or so would be good....
think back on your earliest memories, what age can you remember things from?
If you leave when the youngest is 6 & the older is 7, then go for a year they return at 7 & 8 and will only have missed kindergarden/1st grade...maybe a bit of 2nd. Nothing...
On the way out I spoke with the property owner about bringing some disabled participants or Boy Scouts, she was kind enough to direct us to the large camping area around back and the two old school houses nearby. The outhouse was a little too “rustic” to make use of but I am sure a...
My favorite building was the Machine Shop/Power Plant. This structure is very much intact and once again reminded me how in days long gone there was an asthetic to design that I miss. The swirl of wheel spokes, the shape of handles, the fliigree of footpost all add a quality that evokes...
One thing I like about the place is the collection of hand made signs that explain the equiptment, the mine and the history of the area. This makes it a fun outing for kids as the signs bring the rusty bits to life.
Now I am not one to say that Waymon was a slacker on the hike around the...
A nice place to camp was located that was sheltered and off the main track enough that any Saturday night desert rompers would not blast into our camp. The Fire Dancer propane fire pit provided plenty of warmth but no smoke in our eyes. This was a double treat as I brought my laptop to enjoy a...
My buddy Waymon wanted to get in an overnight outing to check the recent repairs to the Muskoka Foundations Adventure Trailer. I have been wanting to check out the Vulture Mine buildings for a possible Disabled Explorers destination and somewhere new to take my son's Boy Scout Troop. These dual...
In all the world travels you see it is only in the most remote areas of Africa or the Simpson in Australia where you see the need for 2 spare tires.
If you are traveling in North America and really trash one of your tires then it is very easy to take a day or 1/2 day off the trail and visit...
wow!
great job making the trail functional again...that will really help keep others from blazing new trails, going off trail or causing other damage. Nice work.
Also thanks for getting the pics during the recovery & improvement work, I am usually too busy to remember and always regret it later.
I have 2 Yeasu handhelds, the Vr6 (2m/70cm) and the FT170 (2m only), and I do a bit of volunteer work.
Honestly I would say get the FT170 as I have rarely seen a need for more than 2m in community service stuff and I hardly ever used 70cm....but it is up to you if you really feel you will use...
these kind live/in progress reports are great since each day I get a little dose...
I know it is tough to keep this updated so know many of us thank you!
Hey Loren,
I can't say enough about how much I like the Lincoin (sp?) type floor that Sportsmobile uses. I can get mud, sand, and more inside and a quick sweep sends it back out the door.
Don't forget to post over on the sportsmobileforum.com as there are a ton of home builds over there.
if you go to the Nissan Comm vehicle website they show a tour going around the country with the vans for people to see them, also a show schedule of where they will be.
It just says they are coming 2011, not sure when they will actually be at dealers...
I need to find the contact info of the...
Nissan has their measuring session coming up soon and I am pretty sure Alan mentioned sending someone out there for that.
When Haven here on Expo first posted about the Nissan NV2500 I got in contact with Nissan and told them about Sportsmobile West (I was interested in a Disabled Explorers...
This is one more reason why I love my 10" screen Acer netbook running Delorme Topo and Oziexplorer and a usb gps puck.
Less than $500 into the entire setup including the mount (Jeniko $60), theft proof in the sense that I can easily take out the laptop. Does far more functionally like store...
I just found it on your site...
and wanted to double check the price...
is the $610 just for the slider and a then additional $315 for the stove or is the $610 the price for slide plus stove?
I have a buddy at work that I have been showing the Habitat to and the inside setups.
Wander (Matt) I agree completely and think it is a true testament to the quality of this trip report when you count up how many people have joined to say thanks....having been here a few years I have never seen anything like it.
Thanks again to F&J and please please tell us about the rest of...
agreed, just more of a hassle for them to enter & exit...
I have learned this with my Sportsmobile Ford Van, getting everyone out the front doors is a pain, opening the side doors is a pain.
Thus the reason why I liked the thought of a 4dr.....but I agree with proper design a 2dr can work.
