Great video of Azalai Campers on various rigs

I really dig these setups.... now really is there any special reason why one of our great US based camper makers or someone else can't make this happen here? YouTube - Azalai Camper in Tunisia

In Response to the Congo Thread: A Technical Discussion

such as? Make us a list... They had sand ladders, shovels, jacks and were able to self recover many many times. So not to pick on you but it would be good to hear some details beyond just "they were missing some basic items"

Democratic Republic of Congo: Lubumbashi to Kinshasa

RMP, it was the tone of your questions... it was evident by the fact that they didn't have the parts or tools that they didn't not have the skills or parts. They were on the road for 1.5 yrs, even a tube of gasket sealer is tough to keep track of for that long. Or find a replacement of in many...

Democratic Republic of Congo: Lubumbashi to Kinshasa

I can't repair the hubs or axles in my Sportsmobile, does that mean I can't go to Baja? Oh wait I do go to Baja and if I have a breakdown I get a local mechanic to help. Oh and I don't carry spare brake pads, or spare axle shafts or any major component. They didn't carry major bits either and...

Anyone else use their rig as simply a tent on wheels?

Single traveler vs couple vs family... That is what makes the difference more than anything else. I would love to get a simple rig and do a sleep inside setup, which would be ok for me alone and might work with the wife also... but add my son's and maybe the dog and it all goes out the window.

Democratic Republic of Congo: Lubumbashi to Kinshasa

I am humbled to say that the wrap was done better by a person writing in his THIRD language than I could have done in my native tongue. I am impressed by the honest and open way the report was written and have nothing but respect for these folks. I am not sure how I would react put in their...

In Response to the Congo Thread: A Technical Discussion

I have stayed out of all this arm chair quarterbacking up till this point... but now I have to say a few things: 1) I agree that it is good to learn from others, but only with due respect for those folks 2) Far too many people spend all their time and effort talking, and little if any doing 3)...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

once again I am impressed with your way of interacting with other Doug... I recently had a chance to meet the guys importing the Bremach T-Rex into the US, and helped them make contact with Sportsmobile West.... Of course this got my brain going along the lines of putting a camper box on the...

    2008 4x4 Sportsmobile E350

That is the rig that inspired the Disabled Explorers WAVE (wheelchair accessible van for expeditions), Andy was kind enough to let me take it for a spin at the first Overland Expo and that was all I needed to realize what a great platform Sportsmobile West builds. Andy is top notch and takes...

It is always great to have factory folks involved in a community. We may never be the largest customer base but we can be the most visible and fun :) Welcome to Expo! Now when will the gas/electric hybrid be available? I really think that will be the best base for an overland rig...sure there...

    New Van Project "The Yeti"

I can not stress enough the value of adding a quality sound deadener and insulation throughout the entire rig, doghouse, walls and roof along with the floor of course. There is a section on the sportsmobileforum.com for homebuilds that has some good info. Keeping the wgt down will really help...
