Yep! I don't have pics but that is exactly what is running nearly the entire length of the van. Both the Pos. and Neg. cables are 1/2" in diameter or better. I couldn't see what gauge they are but will look tonight. I have no idea why they needed an inverter that large. This is the one that...
Herbie - Are there any pros/cons of doing it the way you did versus what Hell Roaring shows?
My original thoughts are how you did it. This is my current setup:
Positive
Alternator --> Main Batt. --> Breaker --(long cable run)--> Inverter
Negative
Main Batt. --(long cable run)--> Inverter...
I'm trying to get my head around installing just a single auxillary battery and having it isolated from the starting battery. I've been reading through the information at the Hell Roaring website and they have this diagram showing a "standard" 2nd battery install:
My van was already a...
I was playing with some wiring this weekend in preparation to install a 2nd battery that will power the house and run a number of my electrical accessories. I noticed that the wiring included for my Yaesu 7900R has holders for the glass cylinder type fuses. Is there any reason to use these...
My van has the G80 locking/limited slip rear diff. There seems to be some debate on the internet whether it is a true locker or a limited slip with clutches but I don't really care, I just know it works! A lot of guys swap in Detroit TrueTrac's when the G80 gives up. Maybe they could modify...
I don't have a good close-up of my exhaust tip but on my Chevy it routes behind the passenger rear wheel and exits to the side. Pics that I do have are below. It seems to be quite exposed and I could see it catching something even in mild conditions. Does everyone leave the factory exhaust...
Okay, now I see what you're saying. I agree that the angled portions at each end of the bumper would make the project difficult. The center section would be far easier; angles are more square and there is a flatter surface on the backside of the bumper for mounting.
My buddy thinks I should...
What brand light is that? I can't quite make out the decals.
Edit: Never mind, I figured it out - http://www.visionxusa.com/LED-Solstice-S1100/c1_48_88/index.html
Hey Photog - I wanted to revisit this comment of yours. Once it gets warmer out I plan to do as you suggest and check the suspension travel with a shock disconnected.
If travel is being limited, then I need shocks that can handle a <3" lift or something like this right...
Did you mean that #1 would be very hard? I agree that knocking 5" holes in the face of the bumper would definitely involve the most work. I laid on my back for an hour the other night looking at how it could work. The potential spots next to the license plate are pretty flat and there are...
I wanted to revisit this topic. I now have a pair of PIAA 510 fog lights sitting on my work bench and need to figure out how I'm going to mount them. I think my 3 options are a DIY "offroad" bumper from the existing unit, a light bar similar to SheepShagger or mount straight into the top...
Awesome build! Your design is inspiring me on something I want to design for my van.
Two questions:
1. I may have missed it in the 8 pages but do the drawers have a "safety stop" built in or can they come out of the track if pulled far enough? I'm thinking if you were parked on an incline...
I've seen bi-fold and tri-fold seats mentioned on sites but have seen few examples or dimensions listed. I think even the tri-fold alone is too short for a tall adult. I know options from Discount Van Truck have varying widths that are bi-fold with a flat dimension of 48". I would need to...
I did a search within ExPo and didn't find anything. I'm not sure if the search is working correctly as I find it surprising no one has posted on this. Has anyone here ever made there own roof rack out of EMT (electrical conduit)?
Google search for "EMT roof rack" - link
There seems to be...
Are there any updates to this thread? I'm in nearly the same boat.
I have a 2005 Chevy Express cargo van. I want to install a sofa bed similar to a RB50 floor plan. My primary concern is do I install myself or have a conversion company do it? My criteria are:
Forward facing
Folds into bed...
A swap with an electronic shift transfer case is definitely possible just like what has been done in the AWD Astro vans. I never researched the electronic option fully since I didn't have a donor truck (scrounging up wiring harnesses & electronic parts can be a challenge) and my personal...
Hi endneu913 -
Thanks for posting! I would be interested in seeing how bumper mounted up in this thread or I would fully encourage you to show off your rig in a new thread and post the link here. I'm thinking something a bit simpler like a bull bar but the mounting underneath should be...
Would this be a good low profile combo for a dual-band Yaesu FT-7900R?:
- Comet SBB-1NMO dual band antenna
- Diamond NMO base with cable (cable seems short but can make it work)
- bracket to mount to a square Thule bar (similar to what was pictured early in the thread)
I don't have the Thule...
Every aftermarket bottle jack I have seen has the flat-top piston; not the most secure. If I had the welding skills I would build a cradle for the top of one. I hope to take a welding course this spring but wanted something to get me started.
You can find these on eBay from $20 to $120 so...
Just for clarity, have all of these Disco jacks been the 2-stage with about 7" of collapsed height and 8" of lift (~15" total height lifted)? I know that Land Rover went from the Disco I to II in 1999. I see used jacks listed by range of model years; some overlap both series while other appear...
