    Full-size Chevy frame specs

I found this document online and thought it could be helpful to someone here: http://www.gmupfitter.com/publicat/2005_BB/2005_GMT800_CK.pdf (34MB) I own a full-size Chevy van and there aren't many aftermarket accessories available (e.g. bull bars, etc.) but there is plenty out there for the...

    Chevy frame specs

I thought someone may find this useful: http://www.gmupfitter.com/publicat/2005_BB/2005_GMT800_CK.pdf I'm sure everyone else here who has a Chevy van can testify that finding info and/or aftermarket accessories our vans is difficult or don't exist. I've also heard the the vans share frames...

Trailer build based on a utility trailer

Thanks for the pics! I'll definitely have to think a bit more on this. I'm essentially of the same mindset as you: - off-road trailers are cool but WAY out of my budget (even stripped down models) - M416 or M101CDN would work but they are either a decent price or decent condition, never both...

Trailer build based on a utility trailer

Any updates to this thread? I'm interested in a trailer for camping and carrying kayaks that are difficult to get on the roof of my car and van. I've been thinking that a Tractor Supply, Home Depot, Lowes or Northern Tool type trailer with some modifications would be nice middle point between...

Questions: Pop top install options on a van

Some guys have taken the camper top off of a VW Eurovan and installed it on a fullsize van. There are some builds over at Sportsmobileforum that used this method.

    Destination A/T

I have put about 3000 miles on the Destination A/T's I put on my van. They were highly rated and came recommended with all the research I did. So far I have been pleased. I like their on-road manners and they handled 2-3 feet of snow this winter without issue.

Looking for info on a lift

I'm trying to understand how GM suspensions work as well. One thing that the tech article talks about is preload on the bars and the misconceptions around it. Exerpt from paragraph 3: According to the article any adjustment does not change preload, it changes position. The spring is still...

Looking for info on a lift

What dimensions do you need? I'm sure those of us with Express vans could help out. I "heard" somewhere that the Express may share some design features with the Avalanche and Suburban. I didn't record where I found that info but it was speculation anyway.

Looking for info on a lift

I'm glad to see a dedicated thread on this. As for the Roadtrek picture, Roadtrek offers a Quigley converted van. I'm not sure if Quigley uses Fabtech suspension parts or if the owner of that van added hardware. I was under my van this weekend. It is a 2005 Chevy Express 1500 AWD and here...

    Syncro vs. 4x4 Ford?

Not to get off topic but you can get them here much cheaper: http://www.nalpak.com/Pelican-1720 I also mulled the VW van vs. fullsize van vs. Astro van question. I'm definitely a fan of VW (other car is a VW Passat wagon 4motion) but the prices being commanded for a Westy or Westy Syncro for...

New project: The White Buffalo (Chevy Express AWD)

Update: Facelift I like the composite headlight look on Chevy's better than the standard work van/truck front ends, so I decided to change it. Before After This also opens up more options to run different wattage bulbs. I was running the Hella H4 upgrades but still wanted the updated...

New cell phone - Virgin Mobile?

Anyone here using Virgin Mobile phones and services? My contract just expired with Verizon and I'm looking to save money. My current Verizon phone is costing me $50/mo. for a basic voice/text plan and I give it limited use: - I get limited/no signal at work - Work commute is via train and...

Chevrolet Express Van - AWD to 4x4 conversion

I track every tank of fuel in both of my vehicles from the day I've owned them. The van has seen 14 fills over 3300 miles so far that I track with a spreadsheet: Fill # - Odometer - Miles - Gallons - Cost --- MPG 1..........121340........483.....27.00.....78.49....17.90...

Batteries on sale at Sears (online only)

There was an additional "online only sale" mark down on top of the $247.49 sale price. That sale has now expired. Then add the $10 discount and no sales tax (closest Sears that had one when I ordered was in NH - no sales tax!) and I came out to $213.xx. The $10 off of a purchase of $75+ will...

Time to stock up on paper maps!

I find GPS useful on the water (general boating, caught by fog, etc.) but have never been a fan with them in the car. I'm even leary of Google Maps anymore since they have been wrong for me so many times. People think I'm bringing out the Dead Sea Scrolls when I reach for my maps.

Blue Sea Fuse Block in the Engine Compartment?

You wouldn't want the extra option of having another reliable ground point? I'm looking into these Blue Sea panels as well and thought the model with the ground (#5026 - 12 circuit) wouldn't be a bad option. You wouldn't have to use it but it's there if needed.

Batteries on sale at Sears (online only)

Very true! I have had that happen to me before for other items. You could just return the battery purchased online then buy it again at the instore pricing if they really wanted to be difficult. I'll make a pass through the Auto Dept. on my way to mechandise pickup just to check.

Batteries on sale at Sears (online only)

Just an FYI for everyone - Sears is having an online only sale that includes the Auto Dept. and marine batteries. There is also an online coupon code to save $10 off of $75: code: SAVENOW (expires 4/14) I just bought a Group 31 (PM1) Diehard Platinum for pickup at a local Sears for $213...

    Battery isolator installation?

I found the size of my wire running front to back - 2/0 AWG! :Wow1: I need to figure out the size of the breakers needed. The Blue Sea fuse holder I want handles 100A total. Based on your calculation and the input amps listed for the inverter, that breaker in the front of the van must be...

Chevrolet Express Van - AWD to 4x4 conversion

I didn't go back in this thread to look if we discussed it here but the models that did come with AWD have been discussed. There is no such thing as an AWD 1 ton.....they never made them. AWD 3/4 ton vans do exist but they are a rare animal. I believe they were made in 2003-2004. Anything...
