Discovery I/II bottle jacks good units?

I'm outfitting a new-to-me 4x4 van and I'm looking into other options for lifting in an emergency. I'm not impressed with the GM scissors jack and have a floor jack for lifting at home. For situations that would be safe to use it, I'm looking at the Disco bottle jacks that have the cradle at...

    Lifting and jacking?

This is true, however, I've always read that when choosing an appropriate electric winch for a vehicle you should pick one that is rated to pull 1.5x the vehicles GVW. My curb weight is 5200 lbs. but GVW is 7200 so I would need a winch rated at 10,800 lbs. Does this calculation apply to...

    Lifting and jacking?

Hmm, I like the design but not the idea of being under a vehicle while being lowered! :Wow1: There is no way to disengage or remove the catch once you take the weight off of the jack stand portion? That kind of nullifies the safety of having a combined jack/jack stand if I'm understanding this...

    Lifting and jacking?

What solutions are people using to lift their vans for tire changes, etc.? I have a service floor jack in the garage, so lifting at home isn't an issue. My Express van came with the factory jack but I've never been impressed with factory offerings on any vehicle I've owned including this one...

Barn doors or sliding door on Van. Pro/Cons

If given a choice, I vote barn doors as well. I've been around too many vans that have had issues with their sliding doors but have never owned one personally. As mentioned above, I'm not aware of a way to quietly close a slider. I also like the idea for having a small cabinet or shelf that...

    gmc savanna conversion

Given enough time and money, you could make anything work. Are you certain the frame rail spacing is the same? I was told Express vans have a wider frame than their Chevy truck cousins. You may be in store for cobbling a lot of stuff together.

    Nice rack!

I looked at their catalog and didn't see anything other than the Thule, Yakima and the ladder racks. Did I miss it or do they not offer it anymore? http://quigley4x4.com/Products/GMProducts/Accessories.aspx

    Low Profile Antennas

Have you been able to figure out what kind of range you get with the SBB-1? I'm looking into radios/antennas and something lower profile or would fold would work well on my full-size van. Even a short antenna would have some good height if mounted on top.

New project: The White Buffalo (Chevy Express AWD)

dwalt has cranked torsion bars but there has been some discussion and noted differences between these vans. GMC/Chevy color code their torsion bars and it appears that some bars respond to being cranked while others see no change, even with new keys. I'm in the "no change" boat - I cranked...

New project: The White Buffalo (Chevy Express AWD)

I think they did early on in very limited numbers. When I was searching for my van I found a beauty in Indiana that was listed as an AWD 2500. It was too far and too much so I didn't pursue it. This is also assuming it was listed correctly (I've found that to be a big issue with internet...

Magazines catering to campervans/Class B RVs?

My dad is nearing retirement and is looking to get into something like a Roadtrek campervan and asked for a subscription to an RV magazine for Christmas. There are plenty of RV magazines out there but wanted to know if anyone could point me toward any that give more focus toward campervans than...

    Between-Seats Storage?

Ha! Used F150 console Buy It Now for $200?!?! Someone had some wishful thinking! You do want to keep clearance around the doghouse in mind. You probably don't want to be removing every time you have to work on the engine.

    Lights and lighing?

This is a 2003 Silverado: The profile looks very similar to my 2005 van and they list a product for the 2003 Silverado. Maybe I should drop them a note. Would you be able to put a second set of lights on that bar if you wanted, either by using a clamp or drilling through the horizontal bar?

    Lights and lighing?

I don't see anything listed for the E-series van so did you take a blind leap of faith that the bar would work on your van or did you have to modify it? The price is attractive! The main thing I notice is that my bumper doesn't have a cut-out in the middle like the Ford vans or the Ford/Chevy...

New project: The White Buffalo (Chevy Express AWD)

Reverse sensors. This was a fleet vehicle that had a reverse alarm and these sensors to tell you if you were about to back over something. There is a small Green/Yellow/Red LED indicator on the dash (with an audible clicking noise) to tell you how close you are getting. The wire to the alarm...

    Between-Seats Storage?

This won't be terribly helpful but I did a search for "full-size van console" in Google and came up with a few options. I have seen them, mostly in conversion vans, so I know they are out there. I just replaced the console on my Chevy Express engine cover with one that has a glove box (stock...

You also have a good point about having better lights but not something that blinds every human and animal 3 miles in front of you!

    Lights and lighing?

I'm not sure if anything is available for Ford vans but I just replaced the sealed beam headlights in my Express van with Hella H4 Conversion lights. The difference is staggering! They are technically E-code and not DOT approved but the install is simple and at inspection time, I can swap...
