Upgrading my four core radiator to an offset 5 core radiator. I got it second hand so decided to get it cleaned and rodded. Turns out 25-30% of the tubes were blocked.

    MB Truck vs Unimog

Deciding on the base truck is always a compromise, you need to decide what you want to do. Getting the biggest 6x6 truck so you have a mobile palace might be what you want, but that means getting to a lot of places will just not be possible, getting a small truck means you have a lot less...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

I got a 360 Degree camera the other day, been playing around with it. You can stop the video and just scroll around in all directions. This are Facebook videos, let me know if I should rather put them in YouTube https://fb.watch/e6a5fEJAx8/ https://fb.watch/e6a6rOTLNA/...

20” Unimog rims on a Mercedes 814 DA

I've been using the Auber Instruments gauges and sensor for more than 12 years now. I've fond them very reliable - the first EGT I got back in 2010 in a Discovery TDi is still working great. I have five of them in my truck monitoring and controlling various things...

DIlithium yellow stripes now, so I can travel at Warp 1 at least :) When I stop the impulse engines and engage Warp drive, this happens.

Probably have to be installed so that people aren't able to be surfing the net whilst driving down the road. People over here can't be trusted with a phone.

Good point, the shuttle valve is the only real failure point, and it is easy to bypass on go back, as I used the push-fit fittings. The one I have from a Unimog U2450 - designed to do the same thing on that truck, so should be reliable. An alternative view is that it adds some redundancy...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

I decided to do some testing to see if it was worthwile cutting a hole in the bonnet to allow the hot air inside the bonnet to escape. This is for those interested in a bit of scientific evidence, not just opinions. Test method: I have a digital manometer, with with dual inputs, one input I...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

It has been really quiet here on the forum, so here is just something I made for my truck. The exhaust brake on my truck is activated by a foot switch, and on a long downhill, keeping you foot hard on the switch gets a bit irritating. I decided to make another way of activating the...

Byers Guide Diesel heaters by ExPortal

I have a Webasto 90ST-D . On start-up and boost mode it uses 80W (6.5A) for about 5 -10 minutes and then drops off to around 60W ( 4.5A) on our 12V system). It does add a bit of complexity to the engine cooling system. I set mine up to not only heat the camper ( and hot water tank) , but...

Yes, seems like it will be quite useful in the future, I will look at getting one when we have a long trip planned, have to look at whether I can supsend the service for long periods when we don't need it. I read somewhere that it is possible, just need to confirm that.

I would not be worried about having access when driving, but it seems we have to wait a while before we get coverage where we like to go in Australia. There is no coverage north of Brisbane at the moment.

EGT gauge shows when you may be melting the pistons, if it gets much over 700 Deg C ( before the turbo) it is likely you are damaging the engine. The main cause is unburnt fuel in a diesel, this carries on burning down through the turbo damaging that and the pistons. I know of people who have...

    Vortex Generators

It is hard to say exactly, as we have only done one long trip on dirt roads, but it was noticeably less dust, I'll have to find a photo from our last trip with the AirTabs on, but this photo was after about 2000km through the desert.

    Vortex Generators

I made a graph to see if there was anything to see, but no luck, just the big fluctuations due to the long highway trips at 100kph and using jerry cans. Even taking a 5 point rolling average doesn't show where any affect of the Air Tabs, which I put on at around 46000km, and now I have a new...

    Vortex Generators

I just followed the instructions, when I showed the AirTab people a photo, they said there was no point putting them at the back of the cab, due to the bar work etc.
