    Fat bikes

Right on, buddy. I love those old Trek's. I'm building up an old 90's Gary Fisher with an Ogre fork and fat slicks. It'll be fun.

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Yeah, I've got the white and it does hide stuff well. _ HD Payload Package. I believe only available with 3.5L Ecoboost and 5.0L V8. Comes with 3.73 e-locking rear and 36 gal tank, standard, as well as 6.5' bed. Gets special HD wheels for it as well. It gets the GVWR up to something like...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

C'mon. You keep your truck for eons anyway. So what if you drag a new truck through the bush? You won't need to worry about resale anyway. :D I used to obsess over detailing my car back in the day. Like, washing/waxing every other week. Now? I don't care. I think I've washed the truck...

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

It's a truck a lot of enthusiasts have been asking for. I don't think the pricing is right, but I'm sure there will be plenty that will buy.

That's more for you kooky Cali folks. :D

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Nah. Nothing in life is consistent. Problems will always arise. Like your Tacoma that was once problem-free. Not that getting a Fix Or Repair Daily will solve your issues. :D Some people love fixing their cars though (*ahem, LR owners*) :D I'd rather be out on my bike or the fam. Hope the...

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

Especially considering it comes with a diesel....don't know many desert runners with a diesel engine.

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

I don't see the ZR2 as a desert runner. More baby power wagon, rock crawler. Comes with triple lockers, rock sliders, which all seems to be geared to rock crawling than desert runner, to me. And you can get that in a Power Wagon for a similar price (or cheaper in the stripped down Tradesman).

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

They quoted you a price with tax but not other fees? Strange. But that does seem more "reasonable." Cool trucks, nonetheless. Just too much $, in my opinion.

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

It'll be the same/similar reason people choose a 4Runner over a Wrangler. But I'm sure they'll sell well. I'm sure it'll be nice to have some sort of cargo capacity in a Wrangler.

Be sure to test the enclosed trailer first. A friend has a 6x12 and pulls it with a Frontier (5-sp). Downright scary when the winds are high or a semi truck passes. Really struggles uphills as well. Pulled it with my truck that summer and no issues. It'd be hard for a gas engine, at the...

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

Note up above. $44k for the gas. That's going to put you right at $50k with TTL in my state. Ouch.

2011 Ford Focus. Building a better traveling vehicle (Small Budget build).

Yes, definitely a roof rack. I'd suggest Yakima crossbars with their Loadwarrior rack. Not cheap, but you might be able to find them on craigslist. On my old Civic, I got the crossbars/towers for $100, then the Loadwarrior rack for $150. Or hit up REI when they have a sale, or during the...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

That's some beautiful country up there. I wouldn't mind exploring that area some day. Seems like prime bikepacking trails. - New truck would be hard to scratch up in the backcountry. Which is why I thought you were looking at USFS trucks. Either way, though, they're just things. You don't...

Yeah, for sure. We all have our definition of fun. I ride a singlespeed mountain bike with a rigid fork. Some trails take me longer than my friends with full suspension bikes, but I love it.

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Looks like some sweet single track! I'm fortunate enough to have some nice singletrack around as well. - Yeah, the basecamp thing is exactly what I'm gearing towards as well. I'll be ground tenting it for a while though. I'll save the FWC set up until my next truck where I'll have sufficient...

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

I don't know if it's the camera angle, but makes the LX looks like a midsize. Continuing to like that Chevy front end. But man, over $50k for a diesel ZR2.....don't think I could stomach that.

Hey hey, quit taking this derailed thread off topic. Focus man, focus. Watched this vid yesterday. Couple Tundra's tackling Death Valley. FWC on one of them. Just affirmed my disinterest in taking any big rigs off-road (including Tacoma's and old PU's). So fristrating watching them trying to...

    31" Tires

I had 245/75/16 on my old Tacoma DC. They were ok, but don't expect any benefits regarding power or MPG. Probably has to do with the fact that most are LR E. They're not light. Also, ride was very stiff. Not by a huge margin, but definitely noticeable.
