Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Few MPG's doesn't seem like much, but man, when you fill up, the pain is real. I just couldn't stomach driving a 1/2 ton at the cost of a 3/4 ton. I've said before, if Toyota would've made an attempt at any sort of improvement in that arena, I'd probably be in one now. Doesn't it really take...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

I don't think these innovations will necessarily be "leaps and bounds better." But still, progress is made. When a full size gets the same MPG as a mid-size...well, there is definitely room for improvement there. Even if there may not be, at least try. I have 2 friends and 1 family member...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Perhaps not in the truck realm, but I do remember Toyota making some leaps and bounds in the performance car sector. (perhaps this is what PirateMcGee was alluding to). MR2, Supra, Celica, etc. Those little supercharged, mid-engine RWD MR2's were a HOOT to drive. Supra is an icon. Celica...

2011 Ford Focus. Building a better traveling vehicle (Small Budget build).

I hate to be that guy, but your Focus is not rated to tow. Should be in the owner's manual. I understand that people do it anyway. I could've done the same in my old Honda Civic as well. It had plenty of power to pull a small trailer with no issues. But that's rarely the problem in towing...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

I love the van, but here's the other problem, other than the cost. If I get one, it needs to be a high roof. You're familiar with how tall them things are. I'd have a hard time using one on a daily basis. And too top heavy, even for those mile forest roads. I think same could be said for the...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Do you need a moto trailer, or would a hitch mount rack be an option? But an FWC on a 3/4 - 1 ton would be a great set up. I even thought about a fullsize van. But I keep thinking of those backcountry roads that I'm on at times. Most are well graded, so no issues. The problem is, it's the...

2014 F250 Super Duty Expedition Gear Package

The Lance camper will be nice. When I retire, I'll probably end up with a slide in camper vs a RTT type set up. (or maybe a fullsize van). Good luck with the sale. I'd post this in the Classified section here as well. _ Keep that wife happy. :D

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Yeah, but people like you make up 0.05% of the buyers market. :D Most want all the tech and razzle dazzle. They have to compete--they're a business after all. _ More and more, I'm getting less impressed with the new 3.5L. I'm sure it's a nice engine. But a step backwards from the 4.0L...

    2nd vs. 3rd Gen Tacoma

I went through the same thing a couple years ago, except with a Tundra and F150. I understand reliability was a concern going domestic. I was a life-long Toyota guy, and never thought I'd stray. But Tundra really hadn't changed much and MPG was dismal. So I looked at the F150 and was...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Oh, I watch them. :) Some/most of their stuff is entertaining, certainly. But I don't put much weight on those tests. There are definitely certain metrics that can be gleaned from the tests that you can use for your own comparisons. What I'm saying is that most take the tests at face-value...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

There's more to innovation than just tech/gizmo's, though. Main reasons I chose the F150 over the Tundra is some of the bold, risky, but forward thinking moves they've made. Aluminum body, gas efficient V6 turbo (or very inefficient :D), improved payload, etc. Yes, the interior layout seemed...

Please take those "tests" performed by a journalist no auto background, and some Russian guy, with a grain of salt. There's so much more to towing than pulling a load up big grades.

    2nd vs. 3rd Gen Tacoma

No difference in MPG it seems. Room is same/similar. Rear facing baby seats will require the middle position and will be right up against (or past) the front seats. _ The 2nd gen is a proven platform. Plenty of power, and if you get one of the last year models, very reliable. That's the...

Help me spec out a new 2017 Tacoma

Oh, yeah, for sure. No need for a crewmax for a retirement truck. Personally, if I were buying my "last truck" today, it would be an F150 V6, extended cab (or maybe even single) with an 8' bed, XLT (which has just enough amenities to keep the wife happy). Although, if I were to get a slide in...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

Agility or innovation seems to be lost in those board meetings. Both Tacoma and Tundra have gone unchanged for over a decade now. I have a couple of friends who jumped the Toyota ship, because of their reluctance to compete. Seems like they're getting fat on the throne, almost oblivious to...

A dad bike? Simple. Old school 90's mountain bike. Look on Craigslist for Specialized Rockhoppers, Trek 820/850/870/etc., etc. with a steel rigid fork.

For your usage, I would think a Tundra (or another full-size truck) would be a better fit. If you want to stick with mid-size, might be wise to see what 2018 brings. Ford is bringing back the Ranger, too, which should make things interesting.
