    31" Tires

For my truck usage, 33's are unnecessary. I do regret getting them instead of the stock 32" size. Next go around, I'll move back down to 32's. Mine's a full-size truck that doesn't see any hardcore wheeling. Just basic forest road or rough backcountry trails. If it gets any tougher, I'll...

    Chevy Colorado with a camper?

Gotcha. Hopefully you will have enough seat time before buying. Going from a full size van to a midsize truck would be an adjustment. I also don't see the benefits of going diesel for your uses, either. A half-ton V6 gas engine will net you 24-25MPG (Highway), offer more comfort and cabin...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

But you forgot about honeycomb! How's that Tacoma? Guessing nothing's changed, knowing you.

Ford or chevy? Gas or diesel?

I admit, I drank the diesel koolaid a few years ago and was desperately searching for one. Then came to my senses and realized the net gain would be zero, or in the negatives. There is no doubt you get a better deal with a gas engine, which is the direction I ended up going. I don't tow much...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

Are we seriously back at this C-channel crap again?? :D:D Who cares? I'm so much more tolerant of various truck designs these days. All these nit-pick details some people quarrel about is funny and really, irrelevant for how most use their trucks. Buy a truck, use it within the spec'ed...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

How are you liking the ZR2? I haven't seen one personally. Definitely cool trucks. They (meaning Colorado, not ZR2) weren't in the running when I was truck shopping a couple years ago, as I have a family, but for a single-person (or +1) adventure vehicle, it'd be high on the list.

Ford or chevy? Gas or diesel?

I'd imagine a gas option would get you a newer truck with lower miles for the same or similar price. Personally, that's the way I'd go. With a 6 mile round trip for daily use, I'm assuming you don't need mega pulling power. And occasional weekend trips? Even if you're pulling a load then, I...

Our custom Chevy Express conversion van was totaled!

May be a good idea to reach out to a custom van builder, especially a larger commercial operation, and get a bid from them to build one out similar to yours. They may also be able to send over some "comparable" sales of vans recently sold. Hopefully that suffices for your insurance co.

    2012 F 150 Platinum

Great looking truck. You can find plenty of stock 18" wheels on Craigslist for fairly cheap. Mine's pretty stock, with the exception of 33's and tonneau cover. Ecoboost is definitely nice, especially at elevation.

    Spare-tire holding bumper for F150?

I am familiar with the SW, as I'm just north of you. You may want to start with getting some better tires. I'm assuming you've got the Defender M/S, which are good for road, ok for dirt, but you could do better in the "stoutness" arena. Get some decent A/T tires. _ What's better than being...

    Spare-tire holding bumper for F150?

Sounds like a lot of complication and expense to me, especially since your travels are in the States. I don't know you, and I'm not saying this isn't justified for your uses, but, I wonder if you'd be better served by: _ 1) More stout tires. Some GY tires have been known for weak sidewalls...

    Chevy Colorado with a camper?

As has been mentioned before, payload would be the big concern there. Especially with a diesel, where it's lower than a gas engine. As you know, with a kid (or two), cargo fills up pretty quick, too. _ Any reason to avoid a full-size gas truck? Something like a V6 F150 or Silverado? That...

    GMT800 Tahoe or Suburban?

I don't even know why this is up for discussion. Get yourself a Suburban! :) _ I grew up with a friend whose dad had an old burban. Red, late-80's model, I think. That thing went everywhere. Then saw Dante's Peak. I've always wanted one since. It's not in the cards right now, as I value...

    ZR2 vs. The Rubicon Trail

Some funny stuff I've read: _ Bronco vs Rubicon "Three things learned 1. A full size peg will not fit into a Jeep size hole. 2. I'm no longer afraid of body damage. 3. Its not a dent, its a hug from the trail, see #2." _ F250 vs Rubicon "Start with an F250 and end with a Ranger." _ I'm sure...

    The paradox of choice

I would go 27.5+ for sure. Sounds like you need the cush more than speed. 27.5 will be plenty fast and 3" tires will be a good compromise between HT and FS. I'd even say look at a fat bike. They can easily fit 27.5 Plus or 29" wheels, but give you that extra plushness of 4"-5" tires when you...

    Eco-Boost anyone?

Ecoboost has been out for 7 years now. Plenty going over 300k miles without much repairs. Sure, there are casualties as well, just like any manufacturer, but after addressing some teething issues at first, no significant issues reported. _ People are so afraid of turbo engines. Yet, they go...

    Eco-Boost anyone?

I've increased tire size to 33's, so I don't get 24mpg like I used to (on the freeway at ~70). But still does ~22. My lifetime average is 19mpg, which is mostly commuting mileage and some towing. No one should be surprised if you're boosting all the time, you'll get dismal MPG. That's just...

Traded Tacoma for '16 ecoboost F-150. Heresy?!

As with any engine, the MPG depends heavily on your driving style. I drive conservatively, and on the highway (~70MPH) I was at 24MPG stock. With 33's, that dipped by a couple MPG's. The little 2.7L engine delivers, but you do need to keep your foot out of it for max efficiency. If I'm...

Advice on what truck to purchase? Crew cab vs suburban for family of 4+dog adventures

I was going off memory--I thought roof height was ~40" (similar to an LC). For a single person, or maybe 2, it probably works ok. No way for my fam of 4. Plus, moving cargo in and out would get old. I guess it's all subjective, though. Some could make it work and actually enjoy it. Not me...

Advice on what truck to purchase? Crew cab vs suburban for family of 4+dog adventures

Crewcab pick up gets my vote. It's just a more versatile platform, especially if you're using it for a daily driver. Ie, I'm heading over in a few minutes to pick up a yard of mulch. You could do that with a trailer as well, but it's more convenient for me. Camping: don't count on sleeping...
