Opinions on a 2001 Subaru Forester

Option 3 for sure! Make it a fun, off road rig and have a blast. I would keep it SUPER cheap. Some springs or maybe just spacers (if they exist). Skids, and that's it. That'd be a fun vehicle.

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

I won't lie, I like those truck DiD posted with the ARB bumpers. But cheap side of me agrees with above. Simple light bar, maybe a recovery point(s) up front, and a hi-lift in the bed. No need for heavy bumpers, winch, etc. _ Nice truck, Upcruiser. I need to get rid of my chin spoiler as...

    Subaru Outback roof rack options

How sturdy are those rails? Doesn't seem that robust from the pictures, but maybe they're better in person. At least you can mount some solid cross bars on them.

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

I agree. Valid point. But man, that's a lot of dough when speaking in relative terms to other products out on the market. Granted, this is a specialized, very niche vehicle, but Powerwagons, F150's, etc. can be had for less. Even compared to others in the same segment, i.e. JKU, it's (IMO)...

Yeah, or go Tacoma SR and get ARB F/R lockers. Having said that, if they're like any other domestic trucks, expect 15-20% discount right off the back.

And that's for the ext. cab V6. According to that article, crew cab, diesel, and other options could take it to $50k. Yikes

Anyone have a Moonlander for sale?

deux - It's due to tire clearance, nothing more. I need that extra float on probably 1/2 of my rides, so need big tires like Bud/Lou (not impressed with the 2XL's). _ Wheel swap is a nice option, but not a deal-breaker for me. I've never busted a FH, fortunately. I'll probably end up going...

Ah, that's when they added ED coating. Good to know. Thanks.

Load range E on a tacoma?

You'll be fine on them. Just take the PSI down to low 30's. MPG won't be affected (anything of significance, anyway) compared to other LT tires in this size.

Anyone have a Moonlander for sale?

Thanks. I saw a few on there as well. They all want too much for them right now, though. With Surly's current sale they've got going on, you can get a frameset and 2 rims for ~$450. I could build up a new bike cheaper than what most of them are asking. I think my local shop has one for...

Anyone have a Moonlander for sale?

I'm not sure if this is ok to post here, but if not, please move it to the classifieds. It seems the "motorcycle/bike" classifieds is just filled with moto stuff. _ Anyway, I'm looking for a Moonlander, in size Medium. Anyone have one for sale? If interested, I have a Warbird (Al) and/or...

2001 Tacoma w/4:30 gears Tire advice needed

Guess that depends on what you plan to do with it. Do you NEED 32" or 33" tires? Are you happy with the current 31" tires? _ I'd say if it were me, I'd go 32/11.5/15 max on stock gears. But if you can make 31/10.5/15 work, I'd stick with those.

    Which off-road vehicle?

Unless you're me, and not only do you decide to go 1WD, but without a motor... _ By the way, this thing does almost everything better off-road than any of the trucks mentioned. IFS/IRS is the way to go, baby! **(not me in either picture)

With a floor pump, yes. (No way with a mini pump). I usually have to wrap a strap around the circumference of the tire and ratchet it down some. This spreads the beads out, which then makes solid contact with the rim bed, allowing it to air up and eventually seat. Compressor's easier, but...

    Which off-road vehicle?

Not speaking for kojack, but for me, IFS gets me to where I'm going, while riding better on-road and high-speed backcountry roads. This is 95% of my trip miles. I'd say that's probably the same with the majority of the "overland" crowd as well. Given a choice, I'd go IFS. But big tires and...

    Subaru Outback roof rack options

Yeah, I got the same quote. Without the crossbars, $900 (just for installing tracks). I think I could tackle this myself without too much trouble. Either way, I think I'd rather have towers bolted to the roof than tracks. I feel that would be a more solid/stout set up.

    Fat bikes

Last weekend, I was running ~1psi. I'm lightweight as well, but I would've definitely pinch flatted running tubes. I use split-tube method, and it's easy peasy. Even changing tires, I can reuse the split tube without issues. _ But that's what works for me. If you're running tubes with no...

New to Overlanding...Will This Truck Be a Suitable Platform?

There are plenty of trails you can take a full-size truck on. Lots of backcountry roads to explore. I consider my relatively stock truck to be suitable (for what I do). Just throw a tent, sleeping bag, and food in the cooler, and head out.
