2017 Detroit Auto Show: Ford to Bring Back Ranger Pickup, Bronco SUV

Funny thing was, hearing all those people in Oz clamoring for the FJC. Uhhhhhh, you know you've got 70-series available, right? I know about the "greener grass" syndrome, but sheeesh.

Yeah, if you can get a new V6 (n/a) for that much, that's the route I'd go. I was fortunate in getting my commute cut down drastically a couple of years ago (from 25k miles/yr to 12k). If I were still doing long commutes, I'd probably have gotten an N/A V6. Still Ford, since the back seats...

No need to apologize. They're still nice wheeling machines. BUT, could've been sooooo much more!

Very true! I'm sure that JKUR is easy on the eyes.

Hey, I'm not going to disagree with you there. :D The only thing I would change is adding a payload package that takes the GVWR to 7k lbs (mine's at 6.5k lbs), which typically results in a payload at 2k lbs. But as far as operating costs go, an N/A 3.5L V6 would be cheaper and do everything...

When I was shopping for a new truck last year, I was just browsing the diesel section. I couldn't find anything under $45k new--for a Tradesman, crewcab, 4x4 (which is barebones base model, which may not be the best thing for this guy's driving needs). Maybe that's changed now. _ Regardless...

    NEW RIG: 2012 F-150 FX4

Sometimes gaskets fail, especially on sub-par parts like Purolator. I'd get OEM or Wix (Napa Gold) next go around.

I grew up in East NC and loved to visit the coast. I miss the OBX--such a cool place. _ One thought - Enterprise or other rental places have full size trucks. Mostly Ford's around me. You could always rent one and do an extended drive one weekend.

This is all subjective, but I've not been in a modern day full-size truck that wasn't comfortable. 3/4 tons may ride rougher than 1/2 tons, and diesels had more cabin noise than gas, but they were all trucks I could drive all day in comfort. There were definite differences in seats, driving...

I don't think so. I've got family and friends in the construction industry. Most of them use gas 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. They ALL go 200k without a hiccup. That's both Ford and GM. They typically sell them at that point, as they've maximized depreciation. But 300-400k+ isn't unheard of...

I'm not sure if you misread the guy's post, but would you really recommend a 3/4 ton diesel on 35's for someone that only needs to survive beach trips and logging roads? Mid $30k's will get you a diesel with 100k+ miles. Mid $20k, you've got a gas truck with 40k miles. $10k difference. He'd...

I was never fond of that Ranger. Glad he got rid of it. Although, the time we had it, it never broke down on us. But that's mainly from never being worked due to its inability to tow or haul anything. _ I bet we see something from Toyota in '18, maybe '19. But I'm not holding my breath, either.

With your budget and needs, I'd forget diesels. Too much money and won't be much financial benefit, if at all. Plus, modern gas engines will last a long time. _ It sounds like space is the biggest (only?) issue. If I were you, I would look at either the Ram 1500 with the Pentastar V6 or the...

2017 Detroit Auto Show: Ford to Bring Back Ranger Pickup, Bronco SUV

Interested to see what engine they put in the Ranger. I'd imagine the 3.3L, but maybe the 2.7L Ecoboost (which would make that thing a rocketship). If they make some of the options available across all trim levels (i.e. rear locker) like they do on the F-series, it'll be a winner.

    2018 F150

I doubt it would be that close to 30, but ~26MPG would still be great and make it even more cost effective than diesel. I am really interested to see what the diesel numbers come back at, though. If it breaks into the 30's, and has a HD payload package, it would be a great buy for those that...

    2018 F150

Yeah, no kidding. I drove this for a few weeks years (and years) ago, helping my pops out (commercial GC). 1,800 lb/ft torque, 86k lb payload, triple lockers, 9 fwd gears and 3 reverse. Makes piddly 1 ton trucks look like Tonka toys. - I'm still at 22-23 fwy, but maybe 1mpg less during...

    2018 F150

I'm sure diesel fanboys are covered in their own drool with the 3.0, but I'm more interested to see what kind of MPG improvements the 10-sp will put out with the 2.7 and 5.0. Also very interested in the 3.3L V6. If it's an improvement from the current 3.5L (N/A), that would be a pretty...

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

Tacoma/4Runners used to have that option as well. Any (or most) trim, add on an e-locker. Best thing about the Ford is that it's a no-cost upgrade.
