Thanks for the info. I was aware the higher the gear ratio the weaker the gears became, but I havent heard of too many owner breaking 4.88's. Not to say it doesnt happen but I would imagine driving style also has a lot to do with it. Valid points nonetheless and I'm definitely leaning for 4.56s.
VERY well done on the build and thank you for taking the time to post information and photos about it. I'm currently going down a similar route with my 2004 Tundra but will be sticking to the 315 regardless of the cutting required. What gears did you go with (if any) when doing the air lockers...
Sorry Sean, we can gladly take this discussion to a new thread....
Great points and my reasoning for adding a Crawlbox instead of lower gearsets in the diffs.
I'm thinking of going with the Marlin Crawlbox which can make you have essentially a 3 speed T-Case. I would do the regular 2.7xxx...
Lol hey I like those wheels, but I already sold a set to get the Stealth 6's! haha Yah time will tell, the Toyos should be here in a couple days
I was just checking out your Tundra, very nice rig. Hopefully my build thread can be used for others motivation instead of the sole purpose of...
That's my concern also. I have to drive a minimum of 1.5-2.5 hours to get to any of my "local" wheeling locations. I also primarily decided to build my Tundra so I can do more long distance wheeling trips like Utah, Colorado, California, Baja, and Alaska. The 4.56 would be better for fuel...
Ouch man thats a bummer to hear. At least your probably a pro at swapping diffs now! haha In all seriousness hopefully you get some kind of credit from eBay. It sucks but I guess sometimes that what happens when buying someting from a non-vendor or something. Sucks though.
4.56 eh? I'm debating...
Super nice 2nd Gen! You've got some great photos as well. Always nice getting out and enjoying the outdoors with your rig, sure makes the whole modding thing worth it ;)
PS - The ST Maxx are great tires as well!
Man, nice color of Tundra! I actually emailed Richard, awaiting his response. I've delt with him before and he's a pretty cool guy. Hopefully he's willing to make a couple adjustments.
lol yah... thats right. I miss the LX already. It's actually in my work parking lot right now. BUT onto...
Let's talk sliders..... Who's got what?
White Knuckle look bulletproof but they are VERY pricey.
Stubbs are proven but not bolt on, but the pricepoint is attractive
All Pro doesnt really show the mounts on their website or the weight. Overall just not a fan of the shape but again, good price...
I was waiting for that... LOL
In all seriousness though, trying to minimize shipping costs by doing only ONE run down to the US. Tires are really the only thing left to order before I start the heavy wrenching. Then its SLOW from there on out, promise. lol
Will do. I was worried about the...
And I would not discourage that Derek! haha Yours was like the "benchmark" around here and still one of the best 1st Gen Tundra resources I've come across.
Thanks for bumping this! Awesome build and truck. I actually saved some of your Moab photos from this thread last year for ideas. Love seeing it out and getting used. Thanks for sharing and don't be shy with the photos!
Thanks for the reminder on the boots! I had looked at those before. I actually already had to re-clamp mine after I did my Bilstein levelling kit due to spitting grease although they have been pretty good since then.
Yah the 4Runner/Taco guys have busted them for sure. I'll probably be more...
Thanks! I have thought about glass.... but I would only go that route if I went full long travel, and even then, only if I couldn't make the factory stuff work. Glass has its pros and cons. It can sometimes take some massaging to fit properly, but it does give additional wheel well clearance...
I too like the size and it can probably work with 1 child. I have two dogs (one is 75 lbs and the other 20lbs) and they will be in the back when traveling. Not that I'm comparing children to dogs but just saying I need to make the space behind the rear seats useable, although for a slightly...
I ran the Stubbs and Hammerite paint on my 4Runner. IMO the Tremclad household paint held up much better than every other rattle can I have tried and I still use it for everything on my truck that I rattlecan. Grilles, emblems, whatever.
All-Pro might be an option but I'm still stuck on a bolt...
