    camper shell w/o side windows

Sounds miserable. Heard of window tint film? I had an A.R.E. Z-series cap (tip-out screened windows) on my F150, and a bedrug. I sealed up the cap very well, and sealed the bed with silicone. I had the side windows of the cap tinted with 5% film, completely private, good heat reduction in the...

    Aren't You Guys Miserable?

Obviously it depends on climate like everyone has said. I grew up in Oregon and never lived in a home with air conditioning, if that tells you anything. For a few weeks in the summer we left the windows open. Camping was never an issue, most places that warm up so much also cool down at night...

    My New Truck Camper

The little spouts on the rain gutters? Hmm. Those are coming off, actually that is one thing I specifically requested they not install. I'll deal with cleaning black streaks, but I don't want a small brach or brush ripping those spouts off and taking the sealant with it. I think I will trim...

    My New Truck Camper

The grass is always greener right? Soon I'll be wishing I had a pop-up anyway.

    My New Truck Camper

Hah, it took me a minute to figure out what you were looking at. It is the bottom of the table sitting up there. No dogs here. I told her she couldn't have dogs AND kids any time soon. hah! My wife actually just accepted a job in Eugene, Or. I'll be moving her in a couple of weeks, but I won't...

    My New Truck Camper

That's good to hear! I have talked with a few others that had these on Tundras as well and they seemed to like them. To be honest I had never heard of the company when I lived in Oregon. I've been working in Kentucky for 2.5 years (can't wait to go back to Oregon and really use this thing) and...

A.R.E. CX versus MX and other questions

I'm selling the Z series on my F150, but only because I have a slide-in now. It has been a great camper, very solid. Very clean look. I wouldn't bother with the one that is higher than the cab though, you've already got 3'8" or something under a cab high cap. Doesn't seem worth it unless you're...

    My New Truck Camper

Don't hate, but it's not a pop-up... :p Feel free to scroll down for pictures and come back if you feel like reading my rambling. I just picked up my new 2011 Travel Lite 700. It is a pretty basic hard side camper, wood frame and aluminum siding. The layout is much like a lot of pop-ups...

BFG MT KM2 vs. Toyo Open Country MT

Funny, my KM2s rock in snow and ice too. I've got about 34k miles on mine now, still more than half tread. They are getting less effective (duh) as they were, but still work as well as/better than the other mud tires I've used. They are light, they do flatten out well when aired down (pro or con...

    Close one

Glad you handled it okay! You didn't have any looseness or noise before it failed? If I could replace bearings by themselves I would do them frequently too. Unfortunately my truck has hub/bearing units that are non-serviceable and cost $250 or so each. I killed one wheel bearing before going...

Flatbed camper size-is 118" long by 105" wide absurdly large?

Personally I wouldn't want anything wider than 84-86". 92" max. In my opinion you are gaining very little usable space, but a lot of extra inconvenience and wind drag.

    GVWR, payload, and truck campers...

If you want to get an accurate number of what the truck can carry within it's GVWR, axle weight ratings and GCWR the only proper way to do it is drive onto a scale, one axle at a time.

Northstar TC650 (extended cabover) on a supercrew

All of the pictures I've seen show that the bed does extended into the living area 6-12". I mentioned that as a means of measuring. An 80" bed means that the cabover section is probably in the area of 68-74". A person should be able to measure that out on their truck and get a decent estimate...

Northstar TC650 (extended cabover) on a supercrew

Probably best just to call them and ask, I hear they are very helpful. From what I can tell, even with the extended cabover, the bed extends into the living area a small around (maybe a foot?).

    Northstar or Hawk?

I think the last sentence of your post spells it out, get the Northstar. I know I've talked to you elsewhere about my feelings about what you get vs what you pay for with the FWC. But the lack of a real floor would probably be a deal breaker for your use. Since the FWC doesn't have a solid...

"Funny" query related to four-tire rotation.

You can't fix stupid! Did this guy also tell you that you MUST run the max PSI listed on the sidewall too? You can look in almost any owners manual, and ask tire manufacturers and they will recommend some sort of X rotation, or some type of rotation that involves left side to right side. Simply...

    New member -- F150 Build

Very nice, it looks good! The tire size looks to be a good fit. After I installed my bilstein 5100s set at 2"+ up front, I replaced the rear 2" blocks with 3" blocks to get back a little bit of forward rake. I initially bought autospring spacers, but they are not tapered (for pinion angle)...

    F150 trucks

Most of the F150 sites are horrible, I agree. A bunch of 15 year old boys whose mommies bought them a brand new truck, and they want 16" of lift with 42s. Usually some awful combination of body lift, rize 12" drop bracket lift, and coil spacers all together. But there are a FEW knowledgeable...
