1990s MB truck owners. Looking for some details!!

To add to Joe's comments, and in anticipation of VerMonster and others. Doing it over, based in the United States, I would not buy an LN-2 again. It is painfully slow, terribly underpowered and probably lacks the basics, like air conditioning. This is not a turnpike cruiser. Gears on ours are...

Blue Sea 7650 Dual Battery Install Question

Glad I could help, if only a little. Wiring looks better than mine. Don't know the switch logic, but I assume it allows you a force combine. As noted, with AGM, the BIG thing is that long absorb stage @ 14.Xv. The suggestion of a small, but proper, shore charger is excellent, especially as the...

    General Grabber Tire Observations

Small update. Still using the same tires. Running 45 psi in front. Technically too low, but we rarely ever reach 60 mph, but the ride is much, much better. Larger contact patch is more assuring; haven't felt much instability in heavy rain, but we do slow way down. Total weight is around 18,500...

    Earthroamer sell off?

Never had an Earthroamer, but finding the site and reading Bill Swails's comments on what he was trying to do shaped my road to the camper I do have. As to the "I/you could build it for less ..." comments. A single skilled craftsperson probably could build one - there are some great examples on...

    Speedometer calibration

FWIW, we simply had Atkinson Vos replace ours with a new model. Probably the single most expensive thing they did, but it is great, and, according to the GPS, spot on speed.

Not sure this can be done on an 917. There really wasn't even a way to mount an air conditioner compressor. Obviously, anything can be done, with enough time and money. Things are looking better at the moment. Also looking at a second inverter to drive the primary inverter/charger.

OK, there was an early spelchezh version of your post that said "traitors." I was puzzled.

Good! Then we can swap notes on alternator charging. Iiving in the beast I REALLY wish that there was a bracket for a second alternator. But most of the Germans dismiss this, claiming that the belt drive system does not have the power. Interesting phenomenon with northern European sun. This...

"OT" = Off Topic? Got it. Thank you. However, as these trucks are such exotics in North America, I would submit that it is an important consideration. Especially as I know it can be done very wrong! :(

"OT"? He is building on a 24v truck. You are making my point, or was that your intention? Sorry, I don't understand "OT". I made the point only because my truck, a similar Benz, is 24v but the camper builder built the electrical system at 12v, because that is what he had in stock. Then he spent...

Disconnecting one of the two REDARC B2B's seems to help. While it reduces the total potential engine charge to 40A, having only one REDARC connected seems to keep it from dropping to float too soon. Will keep monitoring. Next option is to reduce the absorb voltage on the Victron from 14.2v to...

You will do well. Problem is that many of the parts are simply no longer available, even in Europe. (I was surprised.) Build the tire to the frame, not the sub-frame. You want the later to be as light as possible. Mine was over built. Won't complain, but could have used a bit less weight. I...

" I think the rear mounted lifting systems aren't that complex and don't have to be that heavy, so for my single spare I think this might be my best option. " Methinks that is because you haven't looked at one. In my case, the advantage is that the tire carrier is mounted to the frame only and...

Pity the truck is already en route. Given the dearth of service options in North America, would strongly recommend a spa week at Atkinson Vos or one the similar companies in Holland or Germany. There is so much that you simply cannot get done right in North America. The week that our truck...

Unicorn on the Ocean - 1120AF Coming to Canada

The only lift I have is for the spare, which was relocated from the cab roof. But it is a lot of fabricated steel, which weighs more than the box. Of course, might have needed a hand or electric winch for a tire, even with a ramp. Every eurocamper has a bike rack on the back. And all of them...

OK, maybe if you have a power tilt and lift cab AND the tire does not overpower it! ;) Mine is all manual and, heavy as I am, I still could not always get it to tilt.

Whatever you do, do NOT put the spare on the cab roof. You won't be able to tip the cab, the weight will damage the cab, even if mounted on a frame as ours was. Then, too, is the need for a crane. When I bought the truck the spare was on the cab roof. Looked cool and I even unloaded it with the...

Unicorn on the Ocean - 1120AF Coming to Canada

Love the cab and a half. So wish we had one. Some free advice. Don't fit a rear carrier/hoist for motor cycle or bicycles, simply expand the box to enclose them in a larger garage, perhaps with a ramp to the side. The overall length will be exactly the same, the engineering much simpler, and...

In your case, I would use the Multiplus in Europe and only use the Phoenix in the US or as an emergency backup in EU. Another benefit of the Phoenix - balancing. I have three batteries and one has a cell that tends to lag a bit. It is around 0.03v low while of the other cells are typically...
