Are you a member of the LN2 group? Lots of great folks there; some retired MB mechanics: https://www.ln2-forum.de/ Adam Nations found the alternator and the conversion clip used to wire it to the older truck. (In classic overkill, I also bought one on e-Bay.) Have to keep your wits about you...

Some random comments: -- After dealing with a 12v air conditioner that was loud and did not cool well, I went with a 110v Houghton 13.5k BTU unit. Much, much quieter. Designed to have a soft start capability, I still had to add a soft start to use with a 2Kw inverter. Probably fine with a 3kw...

    Opinions please. Solar/Lithium upgrade

A 100Ah lithium iron battery will come close to doubling your available power for camping. If going to the expense of making a home for a 100AH battery in the camper, I would go for two batteries or one of the new, all-in-one 250 - 350Ah batteries. Battle Born, Renogy, and others sell them...

    Help Shipping Expedition DAF

Just finished shipping with IVSS. -- I didn't fold in the mirrors and the agent in Baltimore remeasured and charged more. Grrr! -- Took a couple of tries to find the office on the pier in Southampton, but then was very quick. -- No damage or looting. -- Insurance cost about 25% of the price...

Lead acid to Lithium Help and Recs?

The short answer is "no" but the longer answer is "yes" you want to move to lithium. It isn't that hard. Can I just drop in a 200ah lithium battery in the lead acid space and not look back? - No, but pretty close. Is there anything I need to alter or be concerned with before going lithium? -...

    Dually for Overland Vehicle?

Traveling and don't have pictures with me, but I did post this a while back. Things are probably better now, but I remain wary. https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/lowly-the-lorry.176161/page-15#post-2868886...

    Dually for Overland Vehicle?

The spider is the center of a wheel. The Stazworks wheel had a flat spider bolted to a bead lock rim. The wheels were a few months old. When the bolts first snapped they were replaced with milder steel by the first owner of the truck. DOT issued a recall for Stazworks wheels on Ford based...

    Dually for Overland Vehicle?

In our case, ten bolts snapped as there was nothing to align the rims with the spider. Having a tire catch fire at high way speed is a lot of fun. Found loose bolts on the other wheels - which have since been junked. Hopefully Stazworks have gotten better. Be care!

    Dually for Overland Vehicle?

Watch closely for snapped or loosened bolts on Stazworks wheels of that type. Can lead to sudden tire deflation.

    Heating Options

Kerosene has slightly lower BTU, but produces less soot on the burner. Also mandatory that you do a 30 minute full power burn every month. I use a Webasto Dual Top, great when it works, but can be a bit finicky. Doing today, I would use a separate air heater and a heat exchanger hot water...

    Heating Options

Use a stand alone tank and run kerosene at altitude. Dual Tops have their challenges, but they are dead silent in normal use. Consider a diesel or gasoline air heater and a heat exchanger to heat your water. Don't waste time on propane.

    Number of water tanks?

This is what I just bought. Had something similar on our previous truck.

    Number of water tanks?

I would love a larger grey water capacity as it is ever harder to dump, especially in more urban environments. Do make sure that your fresh water tanks, at least, all have clean out ports. Makes it much easier to, well, clean, add water treatment, etc.

    unimog as work truck/adventure rig

Just one comment - an orphan Unimog in North America, especially in the west with vast distances, is slow ("fast" axles mean around 55 MPH), noisy, and expensive. Plan on doing a lot of your own wrenching and you will have to pay a lot, and wait a lot, for parts. Other than that, they do what...

How to trickle charge starter battery from house battery set up?

OOOPS! Age aches! You are correct, parallel boosts amps not volts. Lots of us like to go to parallel as it reduces the load on the wires and MPPT controllers love the higher voltage.
