    Am I just outdated?

I use to be wary of the computer stuff in the new cars. But the statistics show a very high reliability record between 30,000 and 100,000 miles regarding the electric bits. Add the diagnostic systems failing sensors etc typically dont fail instantly. You generally get plenty of warning. Having...

Need help choosing new truck tire

I had 285’s on my Landcruiser. Speedo impact was about 3mph. Wasnt much. Gearing / power impact was really small. But the tire size was still decent. Might be a nice middle ground.

What are your Overland equipment must haves?

You can always rent a Sat phone. Last off road trip with a group there was a SAT phone. Most of the PAC Cup boats have the SAT Phone these days also. Costs have come down its comparable to the Eperb in cost.

Need help choosing new truck tire

If you have rubbing your not running stock size anyway. Bump in mileage 5mpg would be a bit extreme but 2-3 is certanly possible. Plus you get back to the stock gearing ratio which improved your power at the wheel and can be better on mileage beyond the reduced drag of the larger tires.

    Critique my solar setup plan?

You can easily test the blanket draw. Get one of these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E1E1XA2/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?psc=1 Then you can run the numbers and know your run time vs capacity etc. Just read up on your inverter they arent very efficient so the power burn rate will be higher than the...

Need help choosing new truck tire

I had Geolanders on my Sequoia and they flat out sucked the big one. Wore out fast, had multiple flats and leaky tire after gravel nothing difficult roads and were loud as they wore out. For heavy bigger trucks they suck. The Rav4 comes with Geolanders on it from the factory enough said. The...

    Am I just outdated?

Funny you should mention that. I was replacing a burt out 7yr old bulb in my Subaru, same time my buddy was replacing his radiator in his 2014 Jeep split weld. Seems he had fewer bolts and fastners than I did. But my light bulb had a longer service life than his radiator😆

    Am I just outdated?

I was just thinking that many Auto Makers today seem faster to correct poor parts quality especially when a big portion of it are parts suppliers who cut corners or use incorrect materials etc. Im sure there are many examples out there mine is with Subaru. Parts supplier built torque converters...

    Am I just outdated?

Good thread. Probably why more than ever Auto maker actions regardless of warranty BS matters. A Auto maker that addresses bad parts / suppliers to reduce the failures its customers experience will be rewarded with more sales. Auto makers who continue selling the same old junk knowing there are...

    Critique my solar setup plan?

How big of a inverter? How big of a battery? Your layout is exactly what my mini set up on my tent trailer is. Going on 4 yrs zero issues. Except I skipped the inverter. No need for that. My only warning is inverters suck, as in suck allot of juice. Most solar controller outputs won’t survive...

    Check It Out!

We have a old Suburban in Indiana pile of rust but it still goes. 380,000. Only minor basics done to it. It’s pretty common to find GM and Ford trucks will 300+ k

    2017 4Runner Premium vs '08 Loaded Cruiser

I asked this question several years ago. A good friend and truck nut put this way. Do you want to pay what 43k for a 40k 4Runner? Or do you want to pay 42k for a 80k LC? Which would you rather be driving? I drove home in a LC two days later. Ha ha

    Vehicle advice

Find a big 4runner. IE a sequoia. I have been happy with mine. Seats 8 freindly adults or three kids, camping gear and the Dobmerman easily. Oh and I just hauled 24 50lb bags of concrete in one trip. Its just a big 4runner.

1993 4Runner - Daily driver with a sense of adventure

I really enjoyed my 91. Though Toyota put new heads on it and tore down the block and sent it out for machining. I was in a Camry loaner for 4 weeks. Then 10 months later it popped again. They told me the wrong / old HG gaskets were used. The first job was 8 pages long and the bill back to HQ...

    Family vehicle Toyota vs Jeep

Keep the truck. But if your tall. The rear facing kids seat vs your seat space might be a deal breaker in both the taco and the jeep. Im 5 10 and the Taco would have been workable. The reverse car seat is only for a short time also. But my main DD is a 2010 OB huge back seat. Lots of space for...

roof insulation ideas for pop top

Good point. Looking at the typical pop up truck campers they all use some type of lever/handle. I wonder if you can incorporate something into your design. A bar tied to roof structure that maybe can double as a drying , clothes hangar but gives you a solid hand grip to push the roof up during...
