STREGA's Bundutec Flatbed Bunducamp Popup Build.

I think the no distributor model works really well for small family shops. As you point out they can do interesting projects, offer really good value for the $$ regarding quality. Plus distributors add a layer between the people who genuinely enjoy building these and the people who end up using...

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

We have lots of high grade stainless riveted to really really expensive sail boat masts sitting in salty places. The easy method is a coat of good quality silicon put down between the Alu and other metal. My 1986 mast is pretty clean still.

    2017 4runner v 2017 Landcruiser

Funny how you cant read. Every 5 months a rebuild. Not umm its whole life. Point being, LCs in remote countries are not magically problem free.

    2017 4runner v 2017 Landcruiser

The LC we spent two weeks in Africa. Two man company. They rebuild the front end every rainy season to rebuild the tie rods given they get high speed wobbles by the end of the season. No vehicle run on goat paths yr around goes without major service yrly

Most contractors in domestic trucks are quick to point out that high mileage numbers are very common with Domestic trucks. Neighbor has a big sheet metal company he has several Fords and GM trucks well into the 300,000 range with fairly typical maint service costs. The electrician I worked eith...

Vehicle rear axle to trailer axle distance

Not an issue as pointed out the longer the hitch to trailer axle distance the more stable the trailer becomes. One of the reasons boat trailers can be some of the nicest to haul at speed. But in tight spots your backing and turning could get challenging.

Actually Suburbans have replaced LCs in war torn areas because they were brought in by contractors. The Diesel LCs get superior fuel consumption than US trucks and not everyone gets cheap GOV controlled fuel prices so fuel hungry US spec trucks are of little interest. Reliability today is like...

    Highways of The North

The modern cars have pretty impressive undercoatings anything over that wont do much. I’ve seen people place a screen over the front grill to avoid rock damage to the radiator. Air beds do that. You can place a self inflating insulated mat between the air bed and you and that will make a big...

    2017 4runner v 2017 Landcruiser

My 4.7 does 15 in town and ran between 14-16 SF to Yellowstone last June. 14mpg was with a head wind at 80mph. 15.5-16mpg was no head wind 75-80. 65mph we’ve had tank averages at 18mpg but thats a rare case. The shocking one was a week cruising Yellowstone returned a tank average of 21mpg but...

    Highways of The North

I’ve come across several Subaru owners that did the dirt trip. All said in the end the car was fine. The gravel shower from trucks just about everyone I talk to simply say pull over as far as you can and basically stop to avoid flying gravel damage. Great trip report!! As a Subaru owner /...

    2017 4runner v 2017 Landcruiser

I scanned the thread here is my input I owned a 92 4 runner and a 93 LC. Number 1 the LC is wider and is a dramatically more stable rig especially on the highway at speed. No comparison the LC is in a whole different league. Off road the LC is great. 4 runner is very good. Given 98.8% of my use...

Expedition Vehicles: ridiculously overpriced or not

Actually if world travel / cruise is the plan then the EXpedition Rig has been around for 100+ yrs already. It floats and sails via wind power. The land based crazy built madness is simply a by product of a strong economy. Patigonia was done 50yrs ago in beater 2wd vans and crude dirt bikes...

Pictures - Starting my 5x8 Cargo Camper Conversion

After seeing the tip up VMI idea two kids up on top is easy. 3 though yes the longer roof line of a 10 footer would open up options. The pull out drawer / slide kitchen at the front end where you have top loader fridge, camp stove, sink, ideally accessable from inside when kitchen is pushed...
