JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

Do you have both front and back Hellwig sway bars? Or just the rear? Hellwig told me to only purchase the rear one, but I’m hoping it makes a noticeable difference since that’s where all the cargo, roof tent, spare wheel, hi-lift jack, fridge, etc are.

JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

Yeah, I spent a lot of money to have my AEV suspension system installed, so I'm pretty frustrated that the installer didn't mention I needed wax, Sharkhide or SOMETHING to keep my Bilsteins from turning into a horror show six months later. But that's what forums like this are for . . . By the...

JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

While we're on the subject of suspension systems, if you decide to go with AEV and Bilstein shocks, you MUST coat them with Sharkhide before they are installed. That's what all the AEV employees do (that's how I found out about this trick). If you don't, you'll end up like me . . . horribly...

JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

Update: I spoke with Kevin at Hellwig. He advised to purchase their Jeep JK 7/8″ Rear Sway Bar (item 7706) but not to purchase a Hellwig front sway bar since I would lose the ability to disconnect it electronically from the driver seat (a standard feature on the Rubicon model JKU).

JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

The answer is, too much! Here's the thread on the topic, from last year: https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/is-my-jeep-too-heavy.184084/ It was 5,800 pounds in that photo, but it's only gotten heavier since then (more armor, dual batteries, twin 5-gallon water cans at 40 pounds...

JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

Here's my Jeep on the scale and another photo that shows how much gear gets packed when I take my boys on a trek with me. I'm way over the GAWR due to 35" tires, bumpers, armor, roof tent and more, but the AEV 3.5" kit helps. I called Hellwig and left a message - I'd definitely like less sway...

JKU suspension upgrade needed - Opinions Welcome

Here's a reply from Chris Holt at AEV that was posted in a thread I started last year about GAWR and suspension systems: "Just a heads up, with SEMA behind us, we displayed a new DualSport HC Suspension System that will be coming out in a couple months. This will include higher capacity springs...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

Thinking more about it, Tembo Tusk needs to start selling a premium version of the skottle kit: twist together legs, eyebolts with 2/3rds of the threads removed for faster mounting, and a drop-down mounting solution that allows the burner to maintain a nice, low simmer. I'd pay 50% more for...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

Anybody know how we could make twist-together leg segment joints, like pool cues have? Now THAT is a nice upgrade that I would gladly purchase . . .

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

I've made two modifications to my Tembo Tusk skottle: 1) Removed the threads on the first half of the eye bolts so I only need to twist them a few times to mount the burner at its highest position against the skottle. 2) Created a drop-down mounting configuration so I can cook at very low heat...

    JKU roof rack suggestions

Yesterday I found the perfect balance point for my hardtop. The hoist system now enables the hardtop to raise and lower perfectly level.

    Side-mount Jerry can holders

In response to some follow-up questions, here's where I found the stainless steel water cans: http://dinubawater.com/ They're not cheap, but they look great, are very durable and don't make water taste like plastic. The company was very helpful in sending me some ideas on how to find a spigot...

    Side-mount Jerry can holders

I love this product. It looks great, is rock-solid and absolutely will not rub or scratch the body panel of the Jeep, even after thousands of miles and/or rough terrain. 10 gallons of water weighs 80 pounds, and I was thrilled to find a solution that didn’t load more weight on the roof or rear...

New JKU Cargo System and Other Upgrades

Here's what my JKU looks like in "trail configuration": all cargo bins, tent and hard top removed. Believe it or not, this photo is from a pubic byway in New Hampshire (a Class VI road).

New JKU Cargo System and Other Upgrades

Went to the batcave today and pulled the tent and hardtop off. Switched to a soft top for some upcoming trail runs and beach trips this summer.

Thanks! Here are some photos that show the 12v outlet hub and LED strips that I installed. I also use the hub to power a 12v fan when the weather gets hot:

New JKU Cargo System and Other Upgrades

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I designed my tent mounting system so that the tent can open to the side OR the back of the vehicle. Today I tested the procedure for swiveling the tent, and it worked great! I'm really happy that it worked so well, since 1) it took me a LOT of work to...

    Side-mount Jerry can holders

I'd love some of those locking straps too! I am paranoid about someone playing a prank and "contaminating" my water supply when I'm not looking. I rigged up a u-bolt through the cap and an eye bolt in the air vent that can be locked with a simple cable (prevents them from unscrewing). Not...

    Update on Custom Grille Project

Thanks! I think the Trail Beast Grille provides a very artistic, aggressive look that still pays homage to the iconic seven-slot design that is recognized all over the world. Plus, it enables more airflow to the radiator and the protection of steel mesh. I'm hoping that it becomes a very...
