I saw a build on Mud of one that is the whole cage around the rig and you tumble it. Cool and all but won't work for me. Regardless of if I get the weight thing right I am planning on a place to mount a big long rod. Leverage is my fiend and with the right leverage I can move thousands of pounds...
I could name hundreds upon hundreds of trails you can't drive one of these down past the first obstacle. There is no need for a pissing match and that is not what I am posting about. Rather, you guys can be the biggest fan boys you want, live in your own little world but when you interact with...
Agree.
Do what you want to the truck, run whatever tire + rim combo that suits you.....ect ect ect. But lets not go bending the truth.
Why is it G owners all refer to a soft top truck as a "Cabrio"!? I realize Benz calls them that but everybody else in the 4wd world calls it a soft top...
Oh it would work and very nice to have to pull motors, move heavy stuff around and so forth.
However, I got a way to pull motors with my hoist, which also doubles as a tranny puller, ie lower tranny down through the floor. I am doing this on the cheap though and am pretty sure I can build the...
I got a nice engine hoist. It simply needs the hydraulic pistons rebuilt, which is happening soon as I have four motors to move around & swap! The rotisserie is going to be super simply and ghetto, don't think I will even use the engine stands. Bunch of scrap steel, will have to buy some new...
More blahing on...
Getting ahead of myself here but reading lot's of threads on Mud has me thinking! :D
First up, I think I decided today I am going to make a rotisserie for both the body and frame. Looks like $200-300 and I can make one and it will save me tons of work plus a...
Yeah, way to big. 37s may even be to big. There is a big jump in price from a 37" tire to a 40" tire. I am not rich enough to be running 40s on pavement and buying new ones every few years! ;) Plus I don't want the truck that tall.
cheers
More screwing around with a tape measure, comparing things and all that jazz.
The Patrol and the portals are shockless, sitting on wood blocks as you can see. Ignore the hydro ram, it is getting pulled in the next 48hrs. The axle as it sits in the Patrol now can only compress another 2-3" max...
Nice looking Patrols! ;)
Good thing they are in Russia, the greenies would have a hay day with that video over here.
Obviously the Cruisers are 105-series. And the trucks are also obviously built for swamp wheeling!
Sale pending on seats & hydraulic steering system from my 83 Patrol. Just waiting on a check!
What that does is give me some money to buy some things for this project. First bits I think I am buying is going to be suspension stuff. Then it is time to put the portals under the FZJ80 chassis. I...
Patrols were sold here from 1962-1969. Total numbers sold was 2616, of that about 950 were soft tops. So this soft top Patrol is very rare and I am excited to be a part of making it live again!
Still waiting on parts...mostly suspension stuff. I expect to have new Alcan leaf springs here in 2-3 weeks tops. After that I just need to buy a few small things for the suspension and then I can start on installing it. The body should be headed to the restoration shop within a week. I need to...
$500 sounds like a lot of cash to me to rebuild an outeraxle/knuckle. It is actually very simple to do and can be done in a few hours if you know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing it can be done in say 6hrs.
All you need to buy to do it (assuming you have basic hand...
You have missed the whole point of this build thread. On top of that I don't really like that 80-series, in particular the engine. And why chop that truck up?
You are suggesting I spend $12,000 to buy something I already have with axles that are nowhere near as good as what I have and to top it...
It doesn't have to just another day. If you go on the rally I am sure it won't end up being just another day! Rather, one you would remember for some time. ;)
