Most Carried Load on ur Crusier Thread....

Umm, read the thread. And also, have you ever hauled hay? Don't call me a liar unless you were there counting the bales. Also, if you have something to bring to the discussion, then do so. Calling people stupid irresponsible liars adds nothing to the thread and makes you look like a 3rd...

Most Carried Load on ur Crusier Thread....

He needed drywall. End of story. You guys are all saying "he should hav edone this, or that, or the other" but don't know his situation. Neither do I. However, based on the stance of the truck, he doesn't appear to be any more top heavy than the cargo vans that run around with all kinds of...

Most Carried Load on ur Crusier Thread....

Yes, really. Why would I make that up? It was a long bed ford dually and we had an intermediate platform in order to get the bales up. The two guys rolling bales would get them up to the tailgate, the guy on the tailgate would swing them up to me and I would swing them up the guys on top...

Most Carried Load on ur Crusier Thread....

Wow folks, relax. Sometimes things need to be done that are not the "safest". Oh well. Just for comparison, In my hay hauling days we put 108 200lb bales in the back of a 1 ton ford dually. The axles hit the bumpstops at about 80 bales. Safe? No. Necessary? Yes.

    New Member needs some advice

To answer your questions: Yes, some of the older land rovers have locking diffs and No, they are not necessary. An unlocked 80 series is well more capable than most trucks out there.

    Mr. Leary's 80 Series

Are you burning a lot of oil? low compression? Low end knock? If not, leave it be. One of the guys over on mud (might be the liked thread, I can't see it at work) tore his down with 225k and he still had crosshatch marks on the cylinder walls. Another guy had 300k on his truck and when he...

    New Member needs some advice

It depends on your intended usage really. I had a 93 and 94 with factory lockers, and I put an aussie locker in the rear of my 97. They are AWD, so the auto locker is transparent. E-lockers can be a bit slow to engage without regular exercise, but IMO are more reliable than the ARB. I...

Towing a travel trailer with an LX470?

IIRC, the 100 series AHC is shock based, and as such, still has coils in the rear and T bars up front. If you have a coil spring, you can have an air bag in it. The beautiful thing about the bags is that they are about 100 bucks and take about two hours to install. I would run it as is, and...

Towing a travel trailer with an LX470?

I also like the 4.7. It gets a bad rap for being so small, but I have never run into issues with the lack of power. It does like to rev, but that isn't a bad thing IMO....

Towing a travel trailer with an LX470?

I agree. I didn't know about the smaller hensley either. Good info. FWIW, Toyota gave the 80 series a 7500 lb tow rating in Australia, and they recommend against the WD hitches. Having towed a good bit with an 80, I would hesitate to tow that much unless it was all flat ground or very...

Towing a travel trailer with an LX470?

I'd say that it is very relevant. If I pull a trailer twice a year, why would I drop 3k on an expensive hitch when slowing down 5 mph will net the same result? If you are towing a lot, then it makes sense to spend the money on expensive widgets that will make life easier. Furthermore, there...

Towing a travel trailer with an LX470?

I towed a similar load with my 80--Jayco hybrid with two pop out beds, 19 ft closed, roughly 4500 lbs with gear--no water on board for that trip. I found that the 80 was sufficient and comfortable. A 100 would have been wonderful. (the sequoia tows like the hundy, just a little better, but...

Does the Prado (GX470) belong Here

It really depends on which came first. Just because the 4runner name came first does not mean that the prado platform wasn't used for the 4th gen runners. Since they debuted the same year, you may not be able to say either one was based on the other, merely that they share a platform...

    Expeditions West: FZJ80 Land Cruiser

Why didn't you guys remove the passenger side third row seat? It is just taking up space and adding extra weight at this point.

I meant when it got sent back in to TLC for Head gasket issues. Just wondered if they identified the fault.

What is wrong with your tranny? I just put a used tranny in mine.......175k hard miles on the original and got a low mileage (91k) one from a yard for 200 bucks....

    Camping with a weapon

You seem to be basing your assumptions on what should happen and what usually happens, rather than on what could happen. You are correct that a gun is not "essential" to camping. Guns are also not "essential" in law enforcement--look at the Brits..."Stop! or I'll throw my stick at you!" i.e...
